Former Rockstar Developer Downplays Impact of GTA 6 Leaks Amidst Fan Speculation and Studio Silence

The massive leaks related to GTA 6 were not considered a significant issue by a former Rockstar developer, mainly because the studio's secretive nature amplified their importance.
In an interview with San In Play, Obbe Vermeij, known for his work on GTA 3 and San Andreas, was asked about his awareness of the substantial GTA 6 leak from September 2022. Vermeij mentioned that he didn't closely follow the leak, noting that leaks generally aren't as critical as people believe.
He attributes the heightened interest to the sheer number of people eagerly awaiting any updates, coupled with Rockstar's lack of communication. Vermeij, who has spent recent years providing insights into the development of the studio's earlier games, shared his perspective on this phenomenon.
Vermeij empathizes with the studios' reluctance to share news, stating that any announcement from major companies like Rockstar, EA, or Ubisoft gets heavily scrutinized and often interpreted negatively. Therefore, the best approach for these companies is to remain silent. While he acknowledges this strategy, he also notes that it's unfortunate but not entirely the companies' fault.
Rockstar described the GTA 6 leak as extremely disappointing, estimating a financial loss of $5 million and thousands of hours of staff time due to the unauthorized reveal of early gameplay videos and screenshots. Despite a more detailed look at the game provided by the GTA 6 trailer since the leak, Vermeij suggests that the game may not differ significantly from GTA 5, potentially disappointing some fans.
In a curious turn, sharp-eyed GTA 6 enthusiasts speculate that Rockstar might be hinting at a new trailer release date through an otherwise mundane pizza delivery clip, seemingly underscoring Vermeij's observations about the intense fan scrutiny.
