The Kid's Eggo Waffle Costume Is a Breakfast Classic You Can Wear. Here's How the One-Size Fit Works

  • Ethan Montgomery

Frozen waffles have been around longer than most grandparents. Frank Dorsa came up with a way to make them in San Jose in 1953, Kellogg bought the Eggo brand in 1968 and, in 1972, the ads gave the world a slogan almost every American can still finish: "Leggo my Eggo." Then, in 2016, a quiet girl with a shaved head and a nosebleed grabbed a box of them in the first season of Stranger Things, and Eggo became a pop culture icon all over again. Eleven's favorite food turned up in almost every season, the show wrapped up on December 31, 2025, and the waffle is now as much a part of the Stranger Things look as the Upside Down. HalloweenCostumes.com sells a Kid's Eggo Waffle Costume under its own FUN Costumes label for $39.99.

It's a funny, simple costume that works for a Stranger Things fan, a breakfast lover or any kid who wants to be a giant waffle. Here's what's in the bag, how the one-size fit works, how to make it comfortable and what to pair it with.

Why a waffle works

Food costumes are a Halloween tradition, and they have a big advantage over most costumes. Everyone gets them right away. Nobody at the door needs to ask who your kid is supposed to be. A giant golden waffle with syrup on it is a waffle.

The Eggo version adds a second layer. To most adults, it's a cute breakfast costume. To anyone who watched Stranger Things, it's an inside joke. Your kid can be the waffle, or they can pair it with an Eleven costume and be the whole scene.

And it's an easy costume to wear. There's no mask, no headpiece and no makeup. Your kid just slips it on over their clothes.

What's in the bag

The Kid's Eggo Waffle Costume (item FUN1474CH) is officially licensed and part of the site's "Made By Us" line. It includes three pieces: a tunic, two plastic hoops and a pair of clear shoulder straps.

The tunic is made of two foam-backed discs, one for the front and one for the back. Each one is 20 inches across. They're printed with a "photo-realistic image of an Eggo Waffle," including the grid of little squares and printed syrup details.

The plastic hoops slide into fabric casings around the edge of each disc. They keep the waffle round and flat, so it doesn't fold or droop while your kid walks around.

The clear shoulder straps connect the front and back discs. They're length-adjustable, so you can raise or lower the waffle to fit your kid. And since they're clear, they almost disappear, which makes it look like the waffle is just floating in front of your kid.

Everything is 100% polyester.

How the one-size fit works

The costume comes in one standard size, which fits a chest up to 50 inches. There's no height or age range on the chart.

That 50-inch number is generous. It means the costume can fit over a thick coat, which is a big plus for a cold Halloween. But it also means the waffle isn't sized to your kid. It's a fixed 20-inch disc, front and back, no matter how big or small your kid is.

Here's what that looks like in practice. On a younger kid, around 4 or 5 years old, a 20-inch waffle will cover most of the torso and may come down past the hips. On an older kid, around 10 or 11, it'll cover the chest and stomach, with plenty of room left above and below. Either way, it looks like a waffle. The difference is how much of your kid shows around it.

For very small kids, the waffle may hit the tops of their legs when they walk. Adjust the straps so it sits higher, closer to the chest.

Adjusting the straps

The straps are the key to a good fit.

Start by putting the costume on over the clothes your kid will actually wear on Halloween. If they're wearing a coat or a sweatshirt, put it on first, then the waffle.

Next, adjust the straps so the top of the disc sits just below the chin, with enough room for your kid to look down and see their feet. If the waffle sits too high, it can bump their chin. If it sits too low, it'll knock against their knees when they walk.

Finally, have your kid walk around, sit down and climb a few stairs. If the waffle catches on anything, adjust again.

Making it comfortable

A disc costume is light and easy to wear, but it does change how your kid moves.

Sitting down is the tricky part. A 20-inch disc in front and in back makes chairs and car seats awkward. For the drive, take the costume off. The straps make it quick to slip off and back on.

Doorways are fine, but narrow spaces can be a squeeze. Show your kid how to turn sideways if they need to fit through a crowd or between parked cars.

The arms stay free, which is great. Your kid can hold a candy bag, high-five friends and grab their own treats. And since there's no mask or hat, they can see clearly and eat a snack whenever they want.

Plan for the weather. The waffle doesn't add much warmth, but it fits over a lot. On a cold night, a coat underneath works perfectly. And since the costume is mostly a front and back panel, your kid's regular clothes become part of the look. Brown, tan or yellow clothes underneath look nicely waffle-colored. Black or white clothes look clean and simple.

Taking care of the hoops

The plastic hoops are what keep the waffle round. They're sturdy, but they can bend if they're stepped on, sat on or crushed in a closet.

So store the costume flat. Slide it under a bed or lay it on a shelf, and don't stack heavy things on top. If a hoop does bend, you can usually ease it back into shape by hand.

The foam-backed discs can get dented too. If one gets a crease, laying it flat under a few books overnight often helps.

Since the costume is foam and printed fabric, spot clean it with a damp cloth. Don't put it in the washer, since that can bend the hoops and crack the print.

Who it's best for

A waffle isn't for every kid, but it's a great fit for a few kinds of families.

It works well for kids who hate masks and tight costumes. Some kids can't stand anything on their face or a suit that clings. This one sits on top of their regular clothes and leaves the head alone, so there's nothing to itch or pull.

It's a good choice for school parades too. Many schools don't allow masks or costume weapons, and a waffle has neither. It's also quick to put on and take off, which teachers appreciate when there's a class of 25 kids to get ready.

It's handy for last-minute shoppers. With one size and no measuring, there's no worrying about whether your kid will grow out of it before October 31. If it fits over a coat, it fits.

And it's a good pick for kids in the middle of the age range. On a 6- to 9-year-old, the 20-inch waffle covers most of the body without hitting the knees, which is about the ideal look.

The one group it's less ideal for is toddlers. On a very small child, a 20-inch disc front and back is big and can get in the way of crawling, climbing and sitting. For little ones, it's better for a quick photo than a whole night out.

Making it a Stranger Things scene

The Eggo waffle is a great costume on its own, but it's even better with Eleven.

The site sells a Stranger Things Tween Pink Dress Eleven Costume by Disguise for $59.99. That's the pink dress Eleven wears in Season 1, the one most people picture. A sibling or best friend as Eleven and your kid as the waffle is a pairing everyone will get.

For an even funnier version, the site has Eggo accessories. The Eggo Waffle: Purse is on sale for $19.99, down from $24.99, and the Eggo Waffle Box Purse costs $29.99. The box purse looks like a box of frozen waffles, and it makes a great candy bag. An Eleven carrying an Eggo box next to a kid dressed as a waffle is about as Stranger Things as Halloween gets.

For grown-ups, there's an Adult Eggo Waffle Costume, with a 28-inch disc and a chest size up to 66 inches. Its product page lists it at $49.99, while the Eleven costumes page showed $39.99 when I checked, so look at the price in your cart. A parent-and-kid waffle pair, one big and one small, is a funny family photo.

Other breakfast ideas

If your family wants to make it a whole breakfast, a waffle goes with a lot of things. A kid dressed as a stick of butter, a bottle of syrup or a strip of bacon makes a funny group. The site sells a range of food costumes, so you can build a full breakfast table.

And for a classic food costume combo, a waffle and a pancake make a fun sibling debate. Which breakfast is better? Let the neighbors decide.

What it costs

The Kid's Eggo Waffle Costume costs $39.99. Since the waffle goes over regular clothes, you don't need anything else.

For an Eleven-and-waffle pair, it's $99.98 with the $59.99 tween Eleven costume. Add the $29.99 Eggo box purse as a candy bag, and you're at $129.97.

For a parent-and-kid waffle pair, it's $79.98 to $89.98, depending on the adult costume's price at checkout.

Summary

The Kid's Eggo Waffle Costume from FUN Costumes is a two-disc tunic with a photo-realistic Eggo print, two plastic hoops and clear adjustable shoulder straps, for $39.99. It comes in one size that fits a chest up to 50 inches, so it goes over a coat easily, but the 20-inch waffle will look bigger on younger kids and smaller on older ones. Adjust the straps so it sits just below the chin, take it off for car rides and store it flat to protect the hoops. Pair it with an Eleven costume for a perfect Stranger Things duo.

So, is it worth it?

Yes, for any kid who wants an easy, funny costume that everyone recognizes. At $39.99, it's a fair price for a licensed costume that's simple to wear, works with any weather and doesn't need a mask or makeup.

I'll admit I like this one more than I expected to. Most costumes ask kids to put up with something, whether it's a hot mask or a tight suit. This one just asks them to wear a waffle. That's a pretty good deal for a kid.

So adjust the straps, put a coat on underneath if it's cold and practice turning sideways through doorways. Grab an Eleven if you have one. Then send your waffle out into the night. And if anyone at the door reaches for it, your kid knows exactly what to say: "Leggo my Eggo."

Pros:
  • Easy to wear over regular clothes, even a coat
  • No mask or headpiece, so kids can see and eat freely
  • Clear, adjustable straps that almost disappear
  • A fun inside joke for Stranger Things fans
  • Officially licensed, with a photo-realistic Eggo waffle print
Cons:
  • One size only, with a fixed 20-inch disc
  • No height or age guidance on the size chart
  • Sitting in chairs and car seats is awkward
  • The hoops and foam can bend or dent if stored badly
  • Spot clean only
