Eleven & the Demogorgon

Back in 2016, a kid with a buzz cut escaped a Hawkins lab, got a pink dress out of Nancy Wheeler's old clothes, and ended up on roughly half the Halloween porches in America. The monster chasing her did pretty well too. Now that Stranger Things has wrapped up for good, Eleven and the Demogorgon have settled into classic-costume status, the way Ghostbusters did a generation ago. HalloweenCostumes.com sells both: a Women's Deluxe Pink Dress Eleven costume for $59.99 and an adult Demogorgon costume for $119.99, which puts the pair at $179.98.

That's a steep price for two people pretending to live in 1983. The reviews, though, are the useful part here, because buyers were very specific about what worked and what didn't.

The dress from season one

Eleven's costume (item DI123669) is the light pink dress with a white Peter Pan collar and a smocked front, the one she wears in Season 1 before things get messy (and bloody-nosed). It has slightly puffed sleeves, an elastic back waistband and a hook-and-loop closure down the center back. You also get knee-high striped socks, 22 inches long, with ribbed cuffs. The dress is 100% polyester. The socks are mostly acrylic with a little spandex.

No wig and no Eggo waffles, sadly. The waffles are the easy part: one box from any grocery store, and you've got the most recognizable prop in the whole show for about the price of a latte.

Sizes are Small, Medium, Large and X-Large, but the size chart has a hole in it. Small is a 34-inch chest, Medium is 38 and X-Large is 50, while Large just says "Coming Soon." The dress runs 39 to 42 inches long. If you're somewhere between a Medium and an X-Large, you're guessing, and the chart isn't much help.

Two buyers, one shared complaint

The Eleven dress has two reviews and a 4-star average, and both reviewers point at the same spot: the back.

The first, a five-star review from November 2022 by a buyer who wore a Large, liked it overall: "I wore this costume for a Halloween party and loved it! Comfortable material." Then came the catch: "No zipper, but a few Velcro pieces to hold the back together. Didn't feel very secure."

The second, from October 2025, gave it three stars and didn't recommend it. "The material is very thin and see-through and the other reviewer is correct about the Velcro patches keeping the back together feeling flimsy and insecure," she wrote. She also left a useful sizing note: "if you do purchase this, don't size up, you don't need to!"

So the fabric feels comfortable to one person and see-through to another, which usually means a slip underneath is a smart idea. The Velcro is the bigger issue. Nobody wants to spend the party backing into walls like they're hiding a secret.

Meet the thing from the Upside Down

The Demogorgon (item DI140869) is made by Disguise Limited and comes as four pieces: a jumpsuit, a hood-mask, a pair of gloves and a pair of shoe covers. The jumpsuit has a foam chest overlay printed with the creature's hide and closes with hook-and-loop at the back (Velcro again, this couple really commits). The gloves have long fingers with foam backs. The shoe covers attach with hook-and-loop at the heels and an elastic band under the foot.

The hood is the showpiece. It has a mesh face panel surrounded by five foam-backed petals, so when it's closed you see through the mesh, and when it's open you look like you're about to eat someone's bike. Sizes are Medium (42-inch chest) and Large/X-Large (48-inch chest). That's it. There's no small option.

Where the monster falls apart

The Demogorgon sits at 3 out of 5 stars from three reviews, and those reviews go in opposite directions.

Rachel loved it in 2022: "This costume was really well made and high quality. Don't order 'cheap' ones from China. This one is the real deal." Her one complaint was the hood, which "kept slipping down due to it being a little top heavy, making it hard to see." A monster that can't see where it's going is actually pretty accurate to the show, to be fair.

A 2025 buyer named Skv had a much worse time. The foot covers were missing from the package, the material felt "incredibly cheap and thin," and the claws were the final straw: "they're soft and floppy, collapsing under their own weight instead of standing rigid as shown in the product images." A third five-star review left no text at all.

Three reviews across three years isn't a big sample. Still, it's fair to say quality control seems to vary, and it's worth opening the box the day it arrives, not the night of the party.

Summary

The Eleven dress looks right and comes with the socks, but both reviewers say the Velcro back feels insecure, and one found the fabric see-through. The Demogorgon is a full-body costume with a clever petal hood, with mixed reviews on build quality and one report of missing pieces. As a couples costume, it's one of the easiest to recognize.

So, should you buy it?

If you want the most recognizable Stranger Things couple, yes, with a couple of backup plans. For the Eleven dress, buy a few safety pins and something to wear underneath. For the Demogorgon, check that all four pieces are in the box and maybe add some bobby pins or a headband to keep the hood from sliding.

I'll admit the Demogorgon's price made me wince, since $119.99 is a lot for a costume with floppy claw complaints. But the hood does most of the work, and nobody at a party will be checking claw stiffness. Order early, bring the Eggos, and let the monster lead the way in, as long as the hood is staying up.
