The Fortnite Skull Trooper Costume Is the OG Halloween Skin in Real Life. Check the Mask Before the Big Night
Back in October 2017, when Fortnite's Battle Royale mode was only a few weeks old, Epic Games released one of its first Halloween skins: the Skull Trooper, a soldier in a black suit with a white skeleton printed on it and a skull for a face. It was only in the shop for a short time, and the players who bought it back then still wear it like a badge of honor. It's one of the original "OG" skins, the kind of thing that tells everyone in the lobby you've been playing since the beginning. It's also a nearly perfect Halloween costume, since it's already a skeleton. HalloweenCostumes.com sells a Kid's Fortnite Skull Trooper Costume by InSpirit, priced at $39.99 to $49.99 depending on size.
That's a fair price for a six-piece licensed costume, and it's one of the most complete Fortnite outfits on the site. It includes the suit, the hood and mask and a handful of small accessories.
The costume has 10 reviews and a 4.6-star average, with 70% five stars, 20% four stars and 10% three stars. The catch is that none of those reviews include any written comments. So this review covers what's in the bag, the sizing quirks you need to know, what a parent said about a very similar InSpirit Skull Trooper costume and how to make sure the mask works for your kid.
What's in the bag
The Skull Trooper costume (item ISP104052) is officially licensed and includes six pieces: a jumpsuit, a hood with a mask, a bandana, a belt, a pouch and a pair of shin guards. The fabric is 100% polyester, and the mesh is 95% polyester and 5% spandex.
The jumpsuit has a back zipper and mesh sleeves, with "All-over printed graphics" for the skeleton. The belt is length-adjustable webbing, so it works across a range of waist sizes. The pouch attaches to the belt, like the tactical gear in the game. The shin guards and bandana finish the soldier look.
The mask is the centerpiece. It's a "Molded vinyl face mask" with an attached fabric hood, so the skull face and hood come as one piece. That's handy, since the hood helps hold the mask in place and covers the back of the head.
Compared with the other Fortnite costumes on the site, this one has a lot of small parts. That's great for accuracy, and something to keep track of on Halloween night. Belts and pouches have a way of disappearing between houses.
The sizing quirks
The Skull Trooper comes in four sizes: Small, Medium, Large and X-Large. The Small is on sale for $39.99, down from $49.99. The Medium, Large and X-Large cost $49.99.
Here's where it gets confusing. The size list on the page shows "Small (8-10)" and "Medium (8-10)," so both sizes are labeled for the same age range. That's almost certainly a mistake on one of them. The site also doesn't show measurements for the Small. The cheaper Econo version of the same costume, which uses InSpirit's sizing, lists its Small for kids 39 to 46 inches tall, so the Small is probably meant for younger kids, about 4 to 6.
The chart does list measurements for the other three sizes. The Medium, for ages 8 to 10, has a 32-inch chest, 20-inch sleeve, 25-inch torso and 50-inch jumpsuit length. The Large, for 10 to 12, is 34, 23, 27 and 53 inches. And the X-Large, for 14 to 16, is 36, 25, 29 and 56 inches.
So here's the plan. If your kid is 8 or older, use the Medium, Large or X-Large measurements, and compare the torso and jumpsuit length to your kid's height. If your kid is younger and you're thinking about the Small, contact customer service first to confirm the measurements, since the page doesn't show them. The $10 discount on the Small isn't worth much if it doesn't fit.
What the reviews tell you
All 10 reviews on the Skull Trooper are star ratings without comments. Seven are five stars, two are four stars and one is three stars. That's a good overall score, and it suggests most families were happy. But it doesn't tell you anything about fit, the mask or how it holds up.
The most useful real feedback comes from a nearly identical costume on the same site. The Boy's Fortnite Party Skull Trooper Costume, also by InSpirit, is the neon-blue party version of the same skin, with a jumpsuit, hood, bandana, waist pouch, shin guards and a mask. It has one review, from Brandy M in September 2025, titled "Mask Too Small."
"Although the body of this costume fit my son, the mask is extremely too small. My son is eight-years-old, 4'6", and 65 lbs.. The elastic on the mask is three to four inches too short, and the eye holes are so tiny it's impossible to see. I had to use a single hole punch to make the eye holes bigger. I also had to purchase Velcro and elastic strips to fix the back of the mask."
It's a different version, so it's not a direct preview. The Party Skull Trooper's mask uses elastic straps, while the regular Skull Trooper's mask is attached to a fabric hood, which may fit differently. But it's the same brand and the same character, so it's worth being ready for.
Making sure the mask works
Here's what to check when the costume arrives.
First, try the hood and mask on your kid right away. Make sure the mask sits comfortably over the face, and that the hood isn't pulling it too tight against the nose or chin.
Second, check vision. Have your kid look around a room and walk down a few stairs. If the eye openings are too small, you can carefully enlarge them, the way Brandy did with a hole punch. A craft knife works too, in a grown-up's hands. Go slowly and make small cuts.
Third, check the fit at the back of the head. If the mask feels loose or tight, a little extra elastic or a strip of hook-and-loop tape can make it adjustable. Both are cheap at craft stores.
And if the mask still doesn't work, the hood alone with some white-and-black skull face paint makes a great Skull Trooper too. It's also cooler to wear and much easier to talk through, which matters if your kid wants to tell everyone they're the OG skin.
The cheaper Econo version
If you want to save money, the site also sells a Kid's Fortnite Skull Trooper Econo Costume (item ISP105412) for $39.99 in all sizes. It includes a jumpsuit with mesh sleeves and printed graphics, a mask with an attached hood, a bandana, a belt with a pouch and a pair of shin guards. So the pieces are very similar.
The differences are in the details. The Econo jumpsuit closes with hook-and-loop on the back instead of a zipper, and the mask is plastic with mesh eye holes. Its shin guards are "sublimated, foam backed" with hook-and-loop fasteners. And it lists heights for every size, from 39 to 46 inches for the Small up to 59 to 62 inches for the X-Large.
It has no reviews yet. But it's $10 cheaper in most sizes, and it has a clearer size chart. If you're not sure which to pick, the Econo is a lower-risk choice, especially for the Small.
Keeping the skeleton comfortable
The jumpsuit has mesh sleeves, which help a lot with airflow. The rest is polyester, which is light. So on its own, the Skull Trooper isn't a hot costume. On a cold night, there's plenty of room for a thin long-sleeve shirt and leggings underneath.
The mask is the part that gets warm. Vinyl doesn't breathe, so plan on your kid pushing it up between houses. The attached hood means it'll stay with the costume instead of ending up in the candy bag.
And keep an eye on the shin guards. Anything that straps around the legs can slip during a lot of running. If they keep sliding, a safety pin through the jumpsuit fabric can help hold them in place.
Building a squad
Fortnite is a squad game, and the site sells a big lineup of InSpirit costumes for friends and siblings. The Kid's Fortnite Peely Costume costs $39.99, and a skeleton and a banana are a very Fortnite combination. There's also a Kid's Fortnite Fishstick Costume for $59.99, a Kid's Fortnite Drift Costume for $39.99 to $49.99, a Kid's Fortnite Fishskull Costume for $49.99 and a Fortnite Boy's Black Knight Costume for $49.99, another early OG skin.
For props, the Fortnite Boogie Bomb Accessory costs $14.99. It lights up and plays music when you press the lever, just like the in-game item that forces other players to dance. A Skull Trooper throwing a Boogie Bomb and starting a dance party in the middle of a street is about as Fortnite as Halloween gets.
Summary
The Kid's Fortnite Skull Trooper Costume from InSpirit is a six-piece set with a printed skeleton jumpsuit, a molded vinyl mask with an attached hood and a set of tactical accessories, for $39.99 to $49.99. It has a 4.6-star average, but none of the reviews include comments, and the size chart has a confusing label and no measurements for the Small. A parent who bought a similar InSpirit Skull Trooper said the mask was too small and the eye holes too tiny, so check the mask when it arrives. The cheaper Econo version has a clearer size chart and similar pieces.
So, is it worth it?
For Fortnite fans who want the classic OG skeleton, probably yes. At $49.99, you're getting more pieces than most kids' Fortnite costumes, and the star ratings are strong. The design is one of the most recognizable in the game, and it doubles as a classic Halloween skeleton for anyone who doesn't play.
I'll admit I'd like to see at least one written review on this costume. Ten star ratings are encouraging, but they don't say anything about the mask, and that's the part that seems most likely to need work. If you go in ready to adjust it, though, the rest of the costume sounds like a solid buy.
So check the size chart for ages 8 and up, or ask customer service about the Small. Try on the mask right away and enlarge the eye holes if needed. Clip the pouch to the belt, strap on the shin guards and then let your kid go out and claim their Victory Royale. In Fortnite terms, a full candy bag counts.
