How to Dress the Whole Frozen Family, From the Premium Elsa Gown to Sven the Reindeer
Frozen opened on November 27, 2013, made $1.28 billion worldwide and won two Oscars, one of them for "Let It Go," a song that parents everywhere have now heard roughly a million times. It's been the default princess pick at Halloween ever since. And with Frozen 3 coming on November 24, 2027, with Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff all back, the Arendelle crowd isn't going anywhere. The good news for families is that Frozen has a full cast: two sisters, an ice harvester, his reindeer and a snowman who loves warm hugs. HalloweenCostumes.com sells a premium line for most of them under its own FUN Costumes label, and the headliner is the Premium Disney Frozen Elsa Costume for Women at $114.99.
That's expensive for a Halloween costume. It's priced more like something you'd buy for a party princess job, and in fact, two of its five reviews come from people who do exactly that. So this guide looks at the Elsa gown closely, then walks through Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, plus the kids' versions, and what the whole family costs.
The Elsa gown
The Premium Elsa costume (item FUN4831AD) is officially licensed and part of the site's "Made By Us" line. It's the ice dress from the "Let It Go" scene, and it comes in four pieces: a mesh shirt, a sequined corset, a metallic skirt and an organza cape.
The mesh shirt has snowflake graphics and finger loops at the end of each sleeve, like the long sleeves in the movie. The corset is covered in sequins and closes with a zipper at the center back. The skirt has an elastic waistband and a slit up the front. And the cape attaches to the corset with metal snaps and runs a dramatic 79.25 inches long in every size.
The pieces are separate, which is smart. You can adjust the fit of the top and the bottom on their own, and the cape comes off when you sit down to eat.
What buyers said about Elsa
The Elsa gown has five reviews and a 4.2-star average. The fans are serious. A reviewer who runs Princess Party Co, at 5'10" and 190 pounds in a Large, wrote, "This one is legit! It matches the photos." She added something I hadn't seen in other reviews: "It actually fits a well proportioned, tall woman which is so so hard to find."
Tierra Weaks gave it five stars and wrote, "This is a great Elsa costume for the price and much better than other Halloween/Amazon quality costumes." She said it "fits true to size," though she wished the skirt fabric were thicker.
Kate's Magical Moments, another party princess, gave it four stars. "This dress is so beautiful and I do recommend it," she wrote. "I am a party princess and have worn it 1x now."
But almost every review mentions the same few problems, and they're worth knowing before you spend $114.99.
The finger loops
This is the most common complaint. Kate wrote, "The finger loops to the sleeves are so tight on my dress and I have thin fingers (size 6)." A reviewer named Amanda, who titled her review "Great Costume! - Couple Hiccups," was even more direct: "The elastic where you put your fingers in are so tight, after only 5 minutes of wear my fingers started to lose circulation."
That's an easy fix. Snip the elastic loop and replace it with a longer piece of soft elastic, or just tuck the loops inside the sleeves. Elsa will look the same from a few feet away, and you'll still be able to feel your fingers.
The glitter
The cape sheds. Princess Party Co wrote, "Sparkle on the cape sheds majorly." Kate said, "The glitter from the dress comes off very easily." And Amanda mentioned having to vacuum her furniture afterward.
So if you're wearing it to a party, expect to leave a trail of sparkle. That's sort of on brand for Elsa. But don't sit on a dark couch at someone else's house, and maybe give the cape a gentle shake outside before you put it on.
The cape snaps
Kate also wrote, "The cape can come easily detached from the corset when stepped on." She said it happened several times during a single event. With a cape that's over 6 feet long, someone will step on it, especially if there are kids around. A couple of safety pins at each snap will help hold it in place, or you can hook the end of the cape over your wrist when walking through a crowd.
The corset
The fit reports are mixed. Lindsey, who bought an X-Large, gave it one star because of the corset alone. "I'm normally a XL in everything else but the corset didn't fit it feels like it would fit medium then a xl." Kate also said the corset runs small, and both party princesses mentioned sequins scratching under the arms.
But Amanda said it runs large, and her advice was, "Please be sure to measure yourself before purchasing!!" The size chart lists the corset chest separately, from 31 inches on the XS to 41.5 inches on the XL. That's the number to check. If your chest is close to the line, size up, since the skirt has a lot of stretch in its waistband and the shirt is stretchy mesh.
For the scratchy sequins, a thin slip or a strip of moleskin on the inside edge of the corset will help. The site's Q&A recommends hand washing each piece separately in cool water and laying it flat to dry.
There's also a Plus Size Premium Disney Frozen Elsa Costume, on sale for $99.99 to $129.99, and a Women's Frozen 2 Elsa Wig for $39.99.
Anna: the warmest costume in Arendelle
The Women's Premium Disney Frozen Anna Costume (item FUN4832AD) costs $129.99 and matches Anna's travel outfit from the first movie. It has four pieces: a light blue jersey knit shirt with embroidered cuffs, a black velvet corset with boning and gold trim, a blue skirt with printed details and a two-layer cape with pom trim. The cape is a synthetic wool blend.
It has five reviews and a 4-star average. An anonymous buyer who's 5'8" in an XL wrote, "Quality is STUNNING," and said the cloak "is easily the best part." Allison wrote, "So beautiful," and called it "totally worth the cost." Heather, who bought it for a family costume, said, "This costume was good quality and fit great."
One buyer, Tuswecawin, pointed out that the Anna costume is warm, which is a big plus for an October night. And with that wool-blend cape, it should be.
The one negative review came from Kristin, who's 5'8" and wore a Medium. She gave it one star and said the costume "came with stains" and the "cape clasp came undone in less than 30 minutes." So check the costume as soon as it arrives, and as with Elsa, add a safety pin at the clasp.
Kristoff: complete but pricey
The Adult Authentic Disney Frozen Kristoff Costume (item FUN4833AD) is the most expensive costume in the family at $149.99. It's also the most complete. It includes a tunic, a shirt, pants, a belt, a hat, a pair of gloves and a pair of boot covers.
The tunic is faux suede with faux fur trim and embroidered collar details. The shirt is a rib knit with suede elbow patches. And the hat has a foam backing and a faux fur pom on top, so it holds its shape.
It has one review, from Heather, who bought it alongside the Anna costume for "our Frozen-themed family Halloween costume." She gave it four stars, said it was "very complete" and "well thought out and comfortable," but added, "it's not worth the money for the quality." She was still "happy to have it."
So Kristoff is a full head-to-toe costume, and the one buyer who reviewed it was happy with it, even if the price stung a bit. There's a cheaper Disney Frozen 2 Kristoff Costume for Men, on sale for $69.99 to $79.99, if you don't mind a Frozen 2 look next to first-movie Anna.
Olaf: the crowd favorite
The Adult Frozen Olaf Costume costs $99.99 on its product page, though the Frozen category page showed $79.99 to $89.99 when I checked. So look at the price in your cart. It includes a foam-backed minky body with fiber-filled buttons, white leggings, a headpiece with an embroidered face and felt antlers, hand covers that snap to the sleeves and shoe covers.
It has three reviews, all five stars. Marian Chang, who's 5'5" and 162 pounds, wrote, "Medium fits perfectly!" and "This costume is really good quality and looks great." Mommyjan bought it for her 14-year-old daughter and said "she loved it," adding that "it honestly looks really good."
And a reviewer named Costcogirl16 wore it to work and wrote, "This costume had the members and their children pick my checkout stand. So fun!" That's the Olaf effect. Everybody loves Olaf.
Sven: the one who never talks
The Men's Disney Frozen Deluxe Sven Costume costs $69.99 to $79.99. It includes a minky jumpsuit with attached hoof covers and faux fur trim, plus a headpiece with a brown muzzle, embroidered eyes and posable wire antlers. It closes with hook-and-loop at the back and chin.
There are no reviews yet. But it's from the same "Made By Us" line as the rest, and it's the cheapest adult costume in the family. Sven is a great job for the dad, uncle or friend who'd rather not have a speaking role.
The kids' versions
For kids, the site leans on the Frozen 2 looks. The Disney Frozen 2 Girl's Deluxe Elsa Costume by Disguise costs $49.99 to $59.99, in sizes 2T to 14/16. It's a dress with an attached tulle cape, a sequin chest panel and glittery snowflakes, and it has 13 reviews with a 4.5-star average.
The Frozen 2 Girls Anna Deluxe Costume, also by Disguise, costs $49.99 to $59.99 and includes a velour dress with an attached belt and a cloak. It has three reviews, all five stars. Ricardo, who bought a 7/8, wrote, "The costume is perfect, and the quality is very high. My niece is very happy with it." Joy said, "Love the cloak it comes with."
There's also a Kid's Frozen Olaf Costume for $69.99 to $99.99, in sizes 5 to 16, from the same line as the adult Olaf. Its one reviewer said it "Fits true to size, mostly," but that the headpiece runs snug. And there's a Disney Frozen Boy's Kristoff Costume for $59.99.
One thing to know: the adult Elsa and Anna are first-movie looks, while the kids' Elsa and Anna are Frozen 2 looks. Most people at the door won't notice. But if you have a Frozen superfan, they might.
What the whole family costs
Here's what a four-adult Frozen group costs. Elsa is $114.99, Anna is $129.99, Kristoff is $149.99 and Olaf is $99.99. That's $494.96. Add Sven at $69.99, and the five-person group comes to $564.95.
That's a lot, about $113 per person. To bring it down, swap in the $69.99 Frozen 2 Kristoff and let a kid be Olaf, Elsa or Anna. A family with two parents as Kristoff and Elsa and two daughters as kids' Anna and Elsa would cost roughly $285 to $315 with the cheaper Kristoff, depending on sizes.
Tips for an icy family
Order early, especially for Elsa. Several reviews mention sizing, and the corset needs to fit right.
Fix the small things before Halloween. Loosen Elsa's finger loops, safety-pin the capes at the snaps and clasps, and test every headpiece. A snug Olaf head may need a little stuffing removed.
Plan for the glitter. If Elsa is going to sit in your car, put down a towel first.
And practice the group shot. Elsa in front with her hands out, Anna next to her, Kristoff in the back with Sven and Olaf standing off to the side, arms open for a hug.
Summary
The Premium Disney Frozen Elsa Costume for Women from FUN Costumes is a four-piece gown with a mesh shirt, a sequined corset, a metallic skirt and a long organza cape, for $114.99. It has a 4.2-star average from five reviews, including two from professional party princesses who say it matches the movie, but reviewers mention tight finger loops, a shedding cape and a corset that may not fit as expected. The matching Anna, Kristoff and Olaf costumes are also premium-priced and well reviewed, and Sven is the cheapest adult option. A full adult family of five costs about $565.
So, is the Frozen family worth it?
For families who want the best-looking Frozen costumes on the site, yes, with a few fixes. The Elsa gown is the piece that party princesses buy, and that tells you a lot about how it looks. The Anna and Olaf costumes get very strong reviews, and Kristoff is as complete as costumes get.
I'll admit the Elsa price made me hesitate. For $114.99, you shouldn't have to re-sew the finger loops. But that's a 10-minute job, and most of the other complaints can be fixed with a safety pin or a lint roller. What you can't fix on a cheaper Elsa is the overall look, and that's where this one wins.
So measure your corset chest, loosen the loops and pin the cape. Shake off the glitter outside. Then line up the family, put "Let It Go" on and walk out the door. Yes, everyone will sing along. Let them.
