The Huggy Wuggy Prestige Costume Is Soft, Furry and a Little Terrifying. Parents Love It
Huggy Wuggy started out as a mascot in a video game about an abandoned toy factory. In Poppy Playtime, which came out in 2021, he's the tall, blue, fuzzy plush who greets you in the lobby of Playtime Co. with long arms and a smile that has a few too many sharp teeth. Then he starts chasing you through the vents. Somehow, that combination of cuddly and creepy turned him into one of the most popular characters kids ask for, and he's been showing up at Halloween ever since. HalloweenCostumes.com sells the Kid's Huggy Wuggy Poppy Playtime Prestige Costume by Disguise Limited for $79.99 to $89.99, depending on size.
That's a lot for a kids' costume. But this isn't a printed jumpsuit with a flat mask. It's a full faux fur suit with a big head and attached shoe covers, and parents seem to think it's worth the money.
The Prestige Huggy has 12 reviews and a 4.9-star average, with 92% five stars and 8% four stars. That's about as good as costume reviews get. So this review covers what's in the bag, how the sizes work, what parents loved and the two small things to know before you buy.
What's in the bag
The Huggy Wuggy Prestige costume (item DI156689) is officially licensed and a HalloweenCostumes.com exclusive. It includes three pieces: a jumpsuit with attached shoe covers, a pair of mitts and a full head mask.
The jumpsuit is long pile faux fur, made of 64% polyester and 36% acrylic, so it looks like Huggy's shaggy blue fur rather than flat printed fabric. It closes with hook-and-loop at the center back. There's a blue satin ribbon bow at the front neckline, like the one Huggy wears in the game. The shoe covers are foam-backed velour, and they're attached to the jumpsuit with elastic and straps that go under the foot. The mitts are also foam-backed velour with elastic cuffs.
The full head mask is where the costume gets its look. It has an inner foam-backed cap that helps hold it in place, mesh side panels for ventilation and mesh-covered eye openings. It's big and round, with Huggy's wide grin.
A parent who bought a 7/8 called out these details: "I really like the head piece, the net sides and the hat/cap attached on the inside to help keep the headpiece on." Another reviewer, Mnd, noticed the same thing: "The eyes and the sides of the head are mesh, so should do well for airflow."
How the sizes work
The Prestige Huggy comes in four sizes: 4/6, 7/8, 10/12 and 14/16. The 4/6 costs $79.99, and the other three sizes cost $89.99.
The size chart gives four body measurements for each size. The 4/6 has a 28-inch chest, 20-inch sleeve, 26-inch torso and 16-inch inseam. The 7/8 is 30, 20.5, 28 and 19 inches. The 10/12 is 32, 21, 30 and 22. And the 14/16 is 34, 21.5, 32 and 25.
The chart doesn't list height or weight, but the reviews fill that in nicely. A parent whose son is 4'3" and 54 pounds bought a 7/8, and it worked. SavannahMae, whose daughter is 7 and 54 inches tall, ordered a 10/12. Idan bought a 10/12 for a 10-year-old listed at 1.36 meters, about 4'5". And avraham yosefi ordered a 14/16 for a 10-year-old who's 148 centimeters, about 4'10", and said "the fit is spot on" and "the length is just right."
A shopper asked in the Q&A about a child with a 28-inch chest, 19-inch sleeve, 23-inch torso and 20-inch inseam. The site's answer recommended the 4/6, and added a helpful detail: "The shoe covers are attached to the pants cuffs with elastic and hook and loop straps that go under the foot, so there's some built-in adjustability at the bottom rather than loose fabric pooling." It also said the mask is "one size within each costume size," and that fit "is more about the cap than the child's exact head circumference."
Should you size up?
A few parents did, and they were happy they did. SavannahMae explained why: "My 7yr old is tall and skinny but I ordered up (10/12) bc Halloween is usually chilly where we live and she may wear thick clothes under it. The costume is perfect!"
Another reviewer bought a size they called "8/10" for a "tall 6 year old grandson" and said "the fit was perfect."
So here's the practical rule. If your kid is tall for their age, or if you want room for warm layers underneath, size up. The attached shoe covers and elastic cuffs mean a little extra length won't drag on the ground. If your kid is small or average, go by the chart.
What parents loved
The reviews are almost all about three things: how real it looks, how soft it feels and how excited kids get.
"This costume is as exactly as you would hope. My son got so many compliments on it.. it takes really great pics!! So fun seeing him go to trunk or treats and trick or treating with it," wrote the parent of a 7/8 wearer. Celine Cottille said, "The big head and the material make it very real."
Several parents said their kids refused to take it off. Sara wrote, "Bought this for my son, who is obsessed with poppy playtime. He loves it so much, he put it on the moment it got here and it was a perfect fit. I love the quality of it, it's super soft, doesn't feel like cheap material. You are getting your money's worth." Mellises said their 8-year-old "put it on and would not take it off," and added, "It feels just like the stuffie and it made great quality material."
The grandparent who bought it for a birthday party wrote, "All his school friends were in Awe and all the parents were asking who is Huggy Wuggy. He was so happy with how realistic it looks and the fit was perfect. He loves it so much he keeps wearing it around the house."
And the quality comes up again and again. "Good fabric not cheap at all and so worth it!" one parent wrote. KathyZimmerman said, "My grandson loves this and we are pretty impressed with quality of it. I'm sure he will be wearing this to scare people all year!!"
The two things to know
There are only two small issues in the reviews, and both are easy to plan for.
The first is shedding. Long pile faux fur sheds, and a few parents mentioned it. "Of course it does shed, but for the price... 100% worth it," wrote the parent of the 7/8. Celine Cottille said, "There is a bit of shedding but nothing extreme." Before the first wear, give the costume a good shake outside, or go over it with a lint roller. And maybe keep it away from the white couch.
The second is heat. Nobody complained about it directly, but a full faux fur suit with a full head mask is warm. The mesh side panels and mesh eyes help, as one parent noted. Still, for an indoor school party or a warm Halloween night, plan on light clothes underneath and a few breaks with the head off. On a cold night, it's an advantage. That's exactly why SavannahMae sized up.
One more practical note: the mask covers the whole head, and the eye openings are mesh. That's great for the look, but younger kids may need a hand on dark porches and steps. Let them practice walking around the house in it first.
A word on scary
Huggy Wuggy is a horror game character, and some younger kids, and some parents, find him genuinely creepy. The costume leans into the realistic look, teeth and all. Reviewers love that, but it's worth thinking about who'll see it. For a school party with very young kids, a quick check with the teacher might save a few tears. For trick-or-treating and trunk-or-treats, the reviews suggest people mostly loved it.
Cheaper Huggy options
If $80 to $90 is too much, the site has a few cheaper ways to be Huggy. The Kid's Blue Poppy Playtime Huggy Wuggy Costume by Disguise costs $39.99. There's also a Poppy Playtime Huggy Wuggy Plush Mask for $39.99 and a Kid's Poppy Playtime Huggy Wuggy Half Mask for $19.99, which pair well with blue clothes from home.
None of them will look as real as the Prestige suit, but they're cooler to wear and much cheaper.
Making it a Playtime crew
Huggy Wuggy has a partner, and the site sells her too. The Girl's Deluxe Kissy Missy Costume, Huggy's pink counterpart, is on sale for $49.99, down from $69.99. That's a great choice for a sibling or best friend.
There's also a Kid's Poppy Playtime Catnap Costume for $49.99 and a Kid's Poppy Playtime Catnap Costume Mask for $19.99, for fans of the purple cat from the later chapters. And a Girl's Poppy Playtime Poppy Costume Dress for $79.99, for the doll the game is named after.
For grown-ups, there's an Adult Poppy Playtime Huggy Wuggy Prestige Costume for $129.99 to $149.99, if a parent wants to match. And if you really want to go all out, there's a 7.5FT Poppy Playtime Huggy Wuggy Animatronic Decoration for $349.99 and inflatable Huggy decorations from $129.99 for 8 feet up to $599.99 for 25 feet. That last one is probably visible from space.
Summary
The Kid's Huggy Wuggy Poppy Playtime Prestige Costume from Disguise is a faux fur jumpsuit with attached shoe covers, mitts and a full head mask with mesh vents, for $79.99 to $89.99. With a 4.9-star average from 12 reviews, it has one of the strongest review records you'll find on a kids' costume, and parents consistently praise how real it looks and how soft it feels. The only complaints are some shedding, and it's warm. Size up for tall kids or extra layers.
So, is it worth it?
For Poppy Playtime fans, yes. It's expensive, but the reviews are almost unanimous, and they're specific. Kids put it on the moment it arrives, wear it around the house and get compliments everywhere they go. That's about the best sign a costume can get.
I'll admit I didn't expect a horror game monster to have some of the warmest reviews I've read. Parents use words like "soft" and "stuffie," and grandparents talk about birthday parties. Huggy Wuggy may chase players through vents, but in real life he seems to be very good at making kids happy.
So check your kid's height against the reviews, size up if they're tall or you want room for layers, and roll the lint roller over it before the first wear. Plan a few breaks with the head off. Then let your kid go give out hugs. Just maybe warn the neighbors first.
