The Deluxe Creeper Costume Gets the Boxy Shape Right. Just Make Sure Your Kid Can See Out of the Mask

  • Ethan Montgomery

The Creeper is probably the most famous mistake in video game history. As the story goes, when Notch was building early Minecraft, he tried to make a pig, mixed up the height and length, and ended up with a tall, green, four-legged thing with a sad face. Instead of fixing it, he turned it into a monster that sneaks up on players, hisses and explodes. More than fifteen years later, that hiss is still the scariest sound in the game, and the Creeper is still the face of Minecraft on T-shirts and on Halloween porches everywhere. HalloweenCostumes.com sells the Minecraft Creeper Deluxe Kid's Costume by Disguise for $59.99.

That's the mid-range Creeper on the site, between a $39.99 jumpsuit version and an $89.99 Prestige version. It's built around a boxy foam tunic, which is what gives a Creeper its shape.

The Deluxe Creeper has seven reviews and a 4.4-star average, with 71% five stars, 14% four stars and 14% two stars. Only two of the reviews have much to say, and one of them is about the mask. So this review covers what's in the bag, how the sizes work, the mask question and how it compares to the other Creepers on the site.

What's in the bag

The Deluxe Creeper costume (item DI65659) is officially licensed and includes three pieces: a tunic, pants and a mask. It's made of 100% polyester fabric and 100% polyurethane foam.

The tunic is the main event. It's a boxy foam tunic that closes with hook-and-loop at the center back, and it holds its square shape, so your kid looks like a block instead of a kid in a green shirt. The pants have an elastic waistband. And the mask is plastic, with mesh-covered eye openings.

That's a smart setup for kids. A separate tunic and pants are easier to put on than a full jumpsuit, and much easier for bathroom breaks. The foam tunic also gives a little warmth on a cold night.

The mask question

Two shoppers asked in the Q&A whether the mask is a full cube or just a front panel, and the answers aren't quite the same. In 2022, the site said, "This mask is a front panel with an elastic band to go around the head." In 2025, another answer said, "The mask is open at the back. It's a plastic mask that covers the face and sides, with an elastic band that goes around the back of the head to hold it in place, plus a foam pad inside for comfort."

So it's not a full cube that encloses the head. It's a mask that sits on the face, possibly with some side coverage depending on the version you get, and it's held on with an elastic band. If you're picturing the full blocky Creeper head from the game, that's the Prestige version, which has a fully three-dimensional mask that wraps around the head.

The bigger issue is vision. The only critical review, from October 2023, was about exactly that. "I was a little disappointed my child couldn't wear the mask even after adjusting she couldn't see out of the mask and had to keep taking it off to walk." That parent also said "The costume part itself easily rips when trying to undo the velcro."

Mesh-covered eye openings are common on character masks, and they always limit vision a little. For trick-or-treating in the dark, that matters. So try the mask at home first. Have your kid walk around a room and up a few stairs. If they can't see well, plan on wearing the mask for photos and pushing it up on their head the rest of the time. The tunic alone still says "Creeper" from across the street.

How the sizes work

The Deluxe Creeper comes in five sizes: 3T/4T, 4/6, 7/8, 10/12 and 14/16, all at $59.99. Right now, the 3T/4T is sold out, but the other four sizes are in stock.

The size chart looks a little unusual at first, because the chest numbers are big. The 3T/4T has a 40-inch chest, the 4/6 has 44, the 7/8 has 46, the 10/12 has 47 and the 14/16 has 48. Those aren't your kid's measurements. They're the size of the boxy tunic itself, which is meant to stand out wide around the body. So don't size down just because the chest looks large.

The more useful numbers are tunic length and pants length. The tunic runs from 20 inches on the 3T/4T to 28 inches on the 14/16. The pants waist is elastic, with ranges from 16 to 24 inches on the smallest size up to 24 to 38 on the largest, and the pants length runs from 25 inches to 38 inches.

The chart doesn't list height or weight. So go by your kid's usual clothing size and check the pants length against a pair of their own pants. If your kid is tall, size up for the pants length. The tunic is boxy enough that a slightly bigger one won't look sloppy.

What parents said

The positive reviews are short. Sharon wrote, "Exactly what we expected. Ordered Nd it was delivered very quickly. Son loved it!" Four other parents gave it five stars without comments, and one gave four stars.

The critical one, already mentioned, focused on the mask and the Velcro. The Velcro point is worth noting. Hook-and-loop closures on foam can pull at the fabric when they're opened roughly. To avoid tearing, open the back closure slowly, peeling it from one end rather than yanking it apart. And it helps to have a grown-up handle it, at least the first few times.

With five of seven reviews at five stars, most families seem happy. But there aren't many written details, so the mask is the one thing to test right away.

The other Creepers on the site

HalloweenCostumes.com has a lot of Creepers, so it's worth knowing how this one compares.

The Minecraft Creeper Jumpsuit Costume for Kids by Disguise costs $39.99. It includes a green jumpsuit with a back fastener, an attachable foam-backed front panel with pixelated graphics and a molded plastic mask with mesh eyes. It comes in 4/6, 7/8 and 10/12, and it has one five-star review. It's cheaper and lighter, but it won't have the boxy shape of the Deluxe.

The Kid's Minecraft Charged Creeper Classic Jumpsuit Costume is $29.99, for kids who want the lightning-blue charged version.

The Kid's Green Minecraft Creeper 'Pop Out' Costume by Disguise costs $59.99, the same as the Deluxe. It has a full-coverage jumpsuit, a pop-out tunic with a wire frame and a headpiece with mesh openings for the eyes and mouth. The wire frame gives the boxy look but folds flat, which is handy for car rides. It has no reviews yet.

The Boy's Minecraft Creeper Prestige Costume costs $89.99. It includes a 3D foam tunic, elastic-waist pants with attached 3D foam boot covers, and a plastic mask with mesh eyes and foam padding. The big difference is the mask, which is fully three-dimensional and wraps around the head, like the real Creeper's. It has five reviews and a 4.4-star average. Right now, the 10/12 is out of stock.

And for big, blocky fun, there's an Inflatable Kid's Minecraft Creeper Costume for $79.99.

So the Deluxe is the middle ground. It has the boxy foam tunic, which the cheaper jumpsuit doesn't, but it doesn't have the full 3D head of the Prestige.

What to add

The Creeper is a simple look, so you won't need much. Green gloves are a nice touch, and the site lists green gloves for $9.99 as an add-on for its Creeper costumes. Green or black sneakers finish the bottom.

If your kid wants to be a Creeper with a fun sound effect, they can practice the hiss. It's free, and it's the most important part of the character.

And for a funny prop, a cardboard block of TNT, painted red with white letters, is easy to make and very on theme. Just be ready for your kid to "explode" at every door.

Making it a Minecraft crew

The Creeper is a natural villain for any Minecraft group. A sibling as Steve or Alex, both of which the site sells as deluxe kids' costumes for $59.99, can be the player trying to dodge them. The Enderman Minecraft Child Deluxe Costume, at $39.99 to $49.99, and the Kid's Minecraft Deluxe Zombie Costume, at $59.99 to $69.99, round out the classic mob lineup.

For parents, there's a Minecraft Adult Creeper Prestige Costume for $129.99 and an Adult Opposuits Minecraft Creeper Costume Onesie for $59.99, if you want to match. A whole family of Creepers walking up to a house together is a pretty great sight, and a very effective way to clear a porch.

Summary

The Minecraft Creeper Deluxe Kid's Costume from Disguise is a three-piece set with a boxy foam tunic, elastic-waist pants and a plastic mask with mesh eyes, for $59.99. It has a 4.4-star average from seven reviews, most of them five stars, but the one detailed critical review says the child couldn't see out of the mask, and the Velcro pulled at the fabric. The tunic is the strongest part of the costume, and it's what makes it look like a Creeper. Test the mask at home, and open the Velcro gently.

So, is it worth it?

For Minecraft fans who want the classic blocky look, yes. At $59.99, it's a solid middle option, with a foam tunic that holds its shape and a two-piece design that's easy for kids. If the full 3D head matters, the Prestige is the upgrade. If you just want something cheap and quick, the $39.99 jumpsuit will do.

I'll admit I'd like more detailed reviews on this one. Five stars without comments don't tell you much. But the design is simple and the tunic is the part kids care about, so I'd expect most families to be happy, especially if they plan for the mask in advance.

So check the pants length against your kid's own pants, try the mask on at home and peel the Velcro slowly. Then send your kid out to sneak up on the neighbors. They don't even need to explode. A good, long hiss is usually enough.

Pros:
  • Boxy foam tunic gives the Creeper its signature shape
  • Separate tunic and pants are easy to put on and take off
  • Five sizes, from 3T/4T to 14/16, with four currently in stock
  • Most reviews are five stars
  • Priced between the cheaper jumpsuit and the pricier Prestige
Cons:
  • One parent said their child couldn't see out of the mask
  • The mask isn't a full cube head like the Prestige version
  • One review says the costume can tear when the Velcro is opened
  • Only two written reviews, with little detail
  • The 3T/4T is sold out
