The Minecraft Enderman Costume Fits Well and Looks Great. The Box-Shaped Mask Is Another Story

  • Ethan Montgomery

Every Minecraft player learns the Enderman rule the hard way. These tall, skinny black mobs with glowing purple eyes wander around minding their own business, picking up blocks and putting them somewhere else, and they're completely harmless until you look one in the eye. Then it screams, teleports right next to you and attacks. They come from the End, they hate water, and they've been spooking players for more than a decade. For a Halloween costume, that makes the Enderman perfect: simple, dark, a little creepy and instantly recognizable to any kid who plays the game. HalloweenCostumes.com sells a Deluxe Minecraft Child Enderman Costume by Disguise Limited for $39.99 to $49.99, depending on size.

That's a reasonable price for a three-piece licensed costume, and for a lot of families, it's one of very few Enderman options out there. One parent put it plainly in a review: "this was one of very few options I could find."

The Enderman costume has 11 reviews and a 3.4-star average. Most parents are happy with the top and pants. The mask, on the other hand, is the reason for nearly every bad review. So this review covers what's in the bag, how the sizes work, what parents love and what they don't, and how to fix the mask if yours has the same problem.

What's in the bag

The Enderman costume (item DI140819) is officially licensed and includes three pieces: a top, pants and a mask. Everything is 100% polyester.

The top is foam and jersey knit, and it closes with hook-and-loop on the back. The foam gives it a blocky, structured shape, which is what you want for a Minecraft character. The pants are jersey knit with an elastic waistband. And the mask is plastic, with a mesh eye opening and an elastic band to hold it on.

A shopper asked in the Q&A whether it's a jumpsuit, since they were looking for a Minecraft costume that doesn't zip up the back. The answer was that it's "a separate top and pants, not a jumpsuit." That's a real plus for a lot of kids. Separate pieces are easier for bathroom breaks, easier to adjust and easier to layer over warm clothes.

How the sizes work

The Enderman costume comes in five sizes, from 3T/4T all the way to 14/16. The 3T/4T costs $39.99, and the other four sizes cost $49.99. The original price for all of them is $49.99, so the toddler size is the only one currently on sale.

The size chart lists measurements for both the top and the pants. The chest runs from 23 inches on the 3T/4T to 25 on the 4/6, 27 on the 7/8, 29 on the 10/12 and 31 on the 14/16. Sleeves go from 14 to 21 inches.

The pants have an elastic waist with a wide range: 16 to 24 inches on the 3T/4T, up to 24 to 32 on the 14/16. The inseam grows quickly between sizes, from 16 inches on the smallest to 18, 21, 26 and 30 inches on the largest.

One number stands out: the top length. It only goes from 16 inches on the 3T/4T to 20 inches on the 14/16. That's pretty short, especially on the bigger sizes, so on taller kids the top might end at the waist or above. Since Endermen are all black, a black T-shirt or long-sleeve shirt underneath will hide any gap and look like part of the costume.

The chart doesn't list height or weight. So go by your kid's chest and inseam, and if they're between sizes, think about which part matters more. One parent, Susan Kirkham, said it "Runs big but my 5 yr old son is small," so if your kid is small for their age, the regular size may be roomy.

What parents love

The top and pants get a lot of praise. A parent who left four stars wrote, "My son really wanted to be an enderman for Halloween and this was one of very few options I could find. Costume fits well and my son is happy. Little pricey IMO so lost a star for that." Another wrote simply, "Fits good, comfy my son loved it."

A parent who signed as Nz mum said, "We are very happy with this costume we bought for our 8 year old, it is great quality & it arrived when it said it would, & was such a good product!" Liat called it "one of the most beautiful costumes we have," and listed "high quality," "fits well" and "unique."

And when the mask works, it really works. Meredith, whose son wore a 7/8, said he got compliments from everyone while trick-or-treating, and added, "The mask really makes the costume amazing!"

The mask problem

Here's where the reviews turn. Of the 11 reviews, 27% are one star, and almost all the complaints are about the mask.

Melissa gave the most detailed explanation, in October 2025. Her review is titled "Terrible Mask." "The mask is essentially a lid for a box with a strap on the back. It folds flat like any box lid would, so the sharp edges on the sides collapse directly into your child's face like a box trying to lay flat. Considering that the head piece is unwearable yet should be the most exciting part of the costume, I would consider this costume design defective and would never purchase again."

Another parent had an even worse experience, titled "Super cheap and painful." "It was so mishaped and the mask hurt my son's face so badly. He didn't even end up wearing it trick or treating because it was so painful and pulled out one of big brothers old costumes instead. Definitely avoid."

Others got masks with manufacturing problems. Rachel wrote that her mask "arrived with a manufacturing error, so that the eyes (the purple lines) are vertical, which was a HUGE disappointment for my 8yo." And one parent found "The elastic strap that hold the mask on was missing. I don't even see where it was ever there."

Even happy parents noticed the mask isn't very comfortable. Susan Kirkham said, "The head piece is bulky, stiff plastic and he won't wear it for long but he thinks it's super cool!"

So the pattern is clear. The top and pants fit well and get good marks. The mask is the weak spot. Its box shape can fold in at the sides, the edges can press into a child's face, and a few masks have arrived with defects.

How to fix the mask

If you buy this costume, check the mask the day it arrives. Make sure the strap is attached and the purple eyes are horizontal, not vertical. If either is wrong, contact the store right away rather than waiting until the week of Halloween.

If the mask is intact but folds inward, there are a few easy fixes. Glue or tape a few strips of craft foam or felt along the inside edges, where the mask touches the face, to soften them and keep them from pressing in. A couple of small cardboard braces taped across the inside corners can stop the sides from collapsing. And moving the elastic strap a little higher or lower can change how the mask sits on the face.

If the mask just doesn't work for your kid, there's another option. A plain cardboard box, painted black with two purple rectangles for eyes, makes a very recognizable Enderman head, and it's what a lot of Minecraft fans have been doing for years. It's lighter, roomier and costs almost nothing. Cut eye holes behind the purple stripes, and add a little padding inside.

And either way, plan on your kid taking the mask off between houses. A stiff plastic box on the head gets tiring, and nobody wants to trip on a dark porch.

The inflatable Enderman

HalloweenCostumes.com also sells a Kid's Minecraft Inflatable Enderman Costume (item DI105119) by Disguise for $79.99. It's an inflatable bodysuit in windbreaker fabric, with a fan mounted behind the right hip and a battery pack that clips to clothing underneath. It needs four AA batteries, which aren't included, and a Phillips-head screwdriver for the battery compartment. It has a back zipper, elastic at the ankles, fully enclosed head and hands, and a smoky vinyl viewport so your kid can see out. One standard size fits chests up to 50 inches.

The big advantage is that there's no plastic mask to hurt anyone's face. The head is part of the inflated suit. It also makes your kid look tall and lanky, which is very Enderman.

But its reviews are mixed too. One parent said, "This costume was adorable and all the kids at school loved it," but also reported a seam tear on the first unit and a broken zipper after limited wear. As with any inflatable, test the fan for a while when it arrives, and keep spare batteries handy.

Making it a Minecraft crew

The Enderman pairs well with almost any other Minecraft costume. A sibling as Steve or Alex can be the player who accidentally made eye contact, and the Enderman can chase them down the street. That's a skit that pretty much writes itself.

There's also a funny contrast with the Creaking, one of Minecraft's newest mobs, which the site sells as a Kid's Classic Minecraft Creaking Costume for $59.99. The Enderman attacks when you look at it. The Creaking only moves when you don't. Put the two together, and nobody knows where to look.

For a yard display, the site also sells an 8FT Minecraft Inflatable Enderman Decoration for $99.99, which is a great way to let trick-or-treaters know they've found a Minecraft house.

Summary

The Deluxe Minecraft Child Enderman Costume from Disguise is a three-piece set with a foam top, jersey knit pants and a plastic box-shaped mask, for $39.99 to $49.99. Parents love the fit and comfort of the top and pants, and when the mask works, it gets compliments. But the mask is the main problem in the reviews, with reports of it folding inward, pressing into kids' faces and arriving damaged or incomplete. Check the mask as soon as it arrives, and be ready to pad it or swap it for a homemade box head.

So, is it worth it?

Yes, if you're ready to work on the mask. The top and pants are well reviewed, the separate pieces are practical, and the price is fair for a licensed Minecraft costume. For a lot of families, it's also one of the only Enderman options around. But if your kid is sensitive to stiff or scratchy masks, plan for padding or a DIY head from the start.

I'll admit the mask reviews were tough to read. A costume where the head is the most exciting part, and also the part that hurts, is a frustrating combination. The good news is that the Enderman's head is a box, and boxes are about the easiest thing in the world to make at home.

So check your kid's chest and inseam, add a black shirt underneath, and look at the mask the moment it arrives. Pad the edges if it folds in. Then get ready for a night of your kid insisting that nobody look them in the eye. That's not rude. That's just how Endermen work.
