The Deluxe Minion Costume Has a Real Pocket and Three-Fingered Gloves. It Also Has Only Two Sizes

  • Emilia Westwood

The Minions were supposed to be background jokes. In 2010's Despicable Me, they were Gru's small yellow henchmen, a crowd of pill-shaped guys in overalls and goggles who spoke a nonsense language, loved bananas and caused about as many problems as they solved. Sixteen years later, they've carried their own movie series, and Minions & Monsters, the third one, hit theaters on July 1, 2026. The franchise has been close to $5 billion at the global box office for a while now. They're also one of the most flexible costumes out there: they work for one person, a couple, a whole office or a family of five, and nobody has to fight over who gets to be the cool one, because they're all basically the same guy. HalloweenCostumes.com sells an Adult Deluxe Minion Costume by Disguise for $69.99.

That's the top of the range for adult Minion costumes on the site. The standard adult version costs $49.99, and there's an inflatable one for $79.99. So the first question is whether the deluxe version is worth an extra $20.

The deluxe costume has two reviews, both five stars, but only one has any text. So this review covers what's in the box, how it fits, how it compares with the cheaper and inflatable versions, and what buyers of those said.

What's in the deluxe box

The Deluxe Minion costume (item DI119109) is officially licensed and includes four pieces: a jumpsuit, a hat, a pair of gloves and goggles. The materials are 100% polyester fabric and 100% polyurethane foam.

The jumpsuit is jersey knit, styled to look like denim overalls over yellow Minion skin, and it closes with hook-and-loop at the center back. The best detail is the bib pocket, which is a real, functional pocket with a printed Gru emblem on the front. That's a small thing, but it matters. Most costumes don't have anywhere to put your phone, and on a Minion, a phone sticking out of the overall bib looks exactly right.

The hat is jersey knit with felt hair tufts on top, which is the little sprout of black hair that some Minions have. The goggle is a large plastic eye goggle with an adjustable elastic band. The listing says "goggle" singular, which suggests a one-eyed Minion like Stuart rather than two-eyed ones like Kevin or Bob, although the product photos are the best guide.

The gloves are where the deluxe version really stands out. They're foam-backed with three oversized fingers, like the Minions' own hands. That's the most cartoon-accurate part of the whole costume, and it's also going to make it hard to text, grab a drink or eat a banana. You'll probably take them off at some point. That's what the pocket is for.

How the deluxe fits

The deluxe Minion only comes in two sizes, Medium and X-Large, both at $69.99. At the moment, there are only nine Mediums left.

The Medium has a 46-inch chest, a 25.5-inch sleeve, a 31-inch torso and a 32.5-inch inseam. The X-Large has a 50-inch chest, a 26-inch sleeve, a 31.5-inch torso and a 33-inch inseam.

That's a roomy cut, which makes sense. Minions are shaped like capsules, and a snug jumpsuit would lose the look. The chest measurements are big for the size names, so a lot of people who wear a Large in regular clothes will fit into the Medium. The torso and inseam numbers are close between the two sizes, though. If you're tall, the extra room in the X-Large's chest won't add much length, so check the torso measurement carefully.

The deluxe version skips Small and Large entirely, and there's no plus size. If you're petite, the Medium may be baggy on you, and if you're above a 50-inch chest, the deluxe won't fit.

What deluxe buyers said

The deluxe Minion costume has two reviews, both five stars. One is just a star rating. The other, from a buyer who goes by drmardigra in November 2022, is short and positive: "The costume fit well and was fun to wear at a party."

That's not a lot to go on, but it's a good sign that the one comment is about fit, since two sizes is the costume's biggest limitation.

The standard Minion, for $20 less

The Adult Despicable Me Minion Costume (item DI166949) by Disguise Limited costs $49.99. It also includes four pieces: an overalls jumpsuit, a beanie, a pair of gloves and goggles.

The differences are in the details. The standard jumpsuit is poly twill for the overalls, with the yellow jersey knit attached, which might actually look a bit more like real denim than the deluxe's all-jersey version. It has elastic at the waist and ankles, decorative buttons and a printed Gru emblem on the pocket. The goggles are molded plastic with an adjustable strap, and the gloves are plain jersey knit, not foam with three fingers. The beanie doesn't mention hair tufts.

The standard version also comes in more sizes: XS/S through X-Large, with chest sizes from 37 to 47 inches, plus plus-size and kids' versions sold separately. So if you're smaller than the deluxe Medium, or you want a whole family to match, the standard version is the easier choice.

It has no reviews yet on the site.

The inflatable Minion, for maximum Minion

If you want to actually be shaped like a Minion, there's an Inflatable Minion Costume for Adults (item DI119169) by Disguise for $79.99. It's an inflatable bodysuit with an attached fan and battery pack, and it takes four AA batteries, which aren't included. The fan sits at the back of the left hip and fills the suit with air. It has fully enclosed character hands, a back zipper and a clear vinyl viewport in the goggle so you can see out. One standard size fits chests up to 72 inches.

The inflatable has seven reviews and a 3.9-star average, and it's the one costume in this group with a real mix of feedback. The fans love it. One buyer called it "the best, so comfortable, and perfect size." Sara I wrote, "Absolutely love it ! Easy to put on and everyone enjoyed it! so cute !!" And a buyer who used it for a themed event titled the review "Popular in Pictures": "We held a Despicable Me themed event and this costume was a huge hit. It worked as advertised."

But 29% of the reviews are one star, and they both describe the same problem. Sarah wrote, "wore it once two seams ripped..for the price it should last." Another buyer said, "Had it wore it once and seams ripped and the inside straps to hold it up ripped off aswell."

So the inflatable is the most fun and the least durable. It's great for a single big event and photos. It's less great if you want to wear it every year, sit down a lot or go through doorways in a hurry. And there's no real way to eat or use your phone once you're in it, since the hands are fully enclosed.

Which Minion should you pick?

Here's a simple way to decide.

Pick the deluxe at $69.99 if you want the most detailed costume and you fit the Medium or X-Large. The three-fingered foam gloves, the felt hair tufts and the working pocket make it look the most like the movies.

Pick the standard at $49.99 if you're smaller, if you want more size choices, or if you're buying for a group. It's $20 cheaper and still comes with the full four-piece set.

And pick the inflatable at $79.99 if you want the biggest laugh at one party and don't mind the risk of a ripped seam. Bring spare batteries.

Making a whole Minion crew

Minions are a group costume by nature, and HalloweenCostumes.com has one for almost every age. There's a Kid's Despicable Me Minion Costume for $39.99, a Girl's Despicable Me Minion Costume Dress for $39.99, a Kid's Classic Minions Costume by Amscan for $29.99, a Toddler Despicable Me Minion Costume for $29.99 and an Infants Minions Costume for $29.99. There's also a Minion Bob Costume for Children for $49.99 to $54.99, if one of your kids wants to be the specific Minion with the teddy bear.

For adults, there are Women's Minion Costume Dresses at $49.99 and $59.99 and plus-size versions of the jumpsuit and dress for $59.99 and $54.99.

And if one person wants to be the boss, a Gru costume is the perfect fit. The site sells a Deluxe Despicable Me Gru Costume for Men for $69.99 and a cheaper Gru Kit for Adults, with a mask and striped scarf, for $29.99. A Gru surrounded by a family of Minions is one of the best family costumes you can do, especially if the kids already run around the house yelling "Bello!"

What to add

The deluxe costume includes almost everything, so you won't need much. If you want a yellow face instead of just the goggle and hat, the site sells Yellow Color Cup Make-Up for $9.99. Cover your face and ears, and test it on a small patch first. For extra goggles, like a second pair for a two-eyed look, there are Minions Goggles Costume Accessories for $12.99, which have printed eyes on the lenses and "limited vision," according to the listing.

Black sneakers or boots finish the look. Minions wear black shoes, and they're easy to find in anyone's closet.

And the only prop that really matters is a banana. A real one works. A plush one lasts longer.

Summary

The Adult Deluxe Minion costume from Disguise is a four-piece set with a jersey knit overalls jumpsuit, a hat with felt hair tufts, a large plastic goggle and foam three-fingered gloves, for $69.99. It has a real bib pocket and a roomy fit, but it only comes in two sizes, and there are only two reviews so far, both positive. The standard $49.99 version has more sizes and simpler gloves, and the $79.99 inflatable is the biggest crowd-pleaser, with a couple of durability complaints. For groups and families, the site's range of Minion sizes makes matching easy.

So, is the deluxe worth it?

If you fit the Medium or X-Large and want the most movie-accurate Minion, yes. The foam gloves and felt hair tufts are the kind of details that make people smile when you walk in, and the working pocket is a practical bonus. At $69.99, it's $20 more than the standard version, and for a lot of people those details are worth it.

I'll admit the three-fingered gloves are my favorite part of this costume. They're completely impractical, and they're exactly how a Minion should look. Just plan on taking them off whenever you need your hands.

So check your chest and torso against the two sizes, and order soon if you need a Medium. If you're buying for a whole group, mix the deluxe with the standard and kids' versions to save money. Bring a banana, practice saying "Bello," and try not to wander off in search of a new villain to follow. Minions have a very long history of doing that.

Pros:
  • The deluxe version has a functional bib pocket, felt hair tufts and three-fingered foam gloves
  • Four pieces included, from the jumpsuit down to the goggle
  • Roomy, capsule-like fit that looks right for a Minion
  • Cheaper standard and fun inflatable versions available on the same site
  • A huge range of kids' and plus sizes for group costumes
Cons:
  • The foam three-fingered gloves make it hard to use your hands
  • The inflatable version has two reports of seams ripping after one wear
  • The goggle has limited vision
