The Prestige Charizard Costume Gives Kids a Real Tail and Real Wings. It Also Costs More Than the One With 34 Reviews

  • Ethan Montgomery

Pokémon turned 30 this year. The first games came out in Japan in February 1996, and three decades later, one of the original 151 is still the one every kid wants to be: Charizard, the orange fire-and-flying dragon who starts life as a tiny Charmander with a flame on his tail. He's also the face of the most famous trading card in the hobby, the kind of card grown adults still talk about like it was a lost lottery ticket. So it makes sense that HalloweenCostumes.com has a whole lineup of Charizard costumes, and at the top of it sits the Kid's Pokémon Prestige Charizard Costume by Disguise, priced at $69.99 to $89.99 depending on size.

It's the most expensive kids' Charizard on the site, and it's built differently from the cheaper versions: a plush jumpsuit, plush wings and a stuffed tail that stands out from the body instead of lying flat.

The catch is that the Prestige version has no reviews yet. But the site's Deluxe Charizard, a step below it, has 34 reviews and a 4.7-star average from parents who were very specific about fit, wings and seams. So this review covers what you get with the Prestige, how it's sized, what the Deluxe buyers learned, and whether the upgrade is worth the extra money.

What's in the Prestige box

The Prestige Charizard costume (item DI249149) is officially licensed and includes three pieces: a jumpsuit with an attached hood, two wings and a tail. It's made of polyester fibers in a plush construction, with poly-filled facial features and a poly-filled tail.

The jumpsuit closes with hook-and-loop down the center front, which makes it easy for kids to get in and out of, and it has elastic at the wrist and ankle cuffs so the sleeves and legs stay put. The hood is attached, so there's no separate mask or hat to lose. The listing promises "prestige-level detailing" with a "signature look with wings, scaled textures," and describes Charizard as "confident, slightly unbothered," which is exactly how a lot of kids walk once they're dressed as him.

The two wings are plush and attach to the back with hook-and-loop. The tail is poly-filled and also attaches with hook-and-loop. That's the big difference from the cheaper Charizard costumes on the site. In those, the tail is a flat foam piece sewn onto the back. Here, it's a stuffed, three-dimensional tail.

One shopper asked in the Q&A how to inflate the tail, since there seemed to be something blocking a valve. The answer on the page, labeled as AI-generated, said the tail is "poly filled, meaning it comes already stuffed with polyester fiber rather than being an inflatable piece," so there's nothing to inflate or poke through. It just attaches and it's ready to wear.

How the Prestige sizes work

The Prestige Charizard comes in three sizes, and the pricing is a bit unusual. Sizes 4/6 and 7/8 cost $89.99, while the biggest size, 10/12, costs $69.99. So if your kid fits the 10/12, you're getting the top-tier Charizard for the same price as the Deluxe version's top price.

The size chart includes height and weight. Size 4/6 fits kids 43 to 49.5 inches tall and 36 to 47 pounds, with a 26-inch chest, 23-inch waist and 26-inch hips. Size 7/8 fits kids 50 to 53.5 inches tall and 48 to 60 pounds, with a 26.5-inch chest, 24.5-inch waist and 27.5-inch hips. And size 10/12 fits kids 54 to 58.5 inches tall and 60 to 87 pounds, with a 28-inch chest, 26.5-inch waist and 30-inch hips. Inseams go from 19 to 26 inches.

The chest barely changes from one size to the next, only 2 inches between the smallest and largest. So for this costume, height is the main thing that separates the sizes. Go by height first, then weight.

Notice what's missing, too. There's no toddler size and nothing above 10/12. The biggest size tops out at 58.5 inches, just under 4'11". For a toddler or a taller tween, you'll need a different version.

What the Deluxe buyers learned

The Pokémon Charizard Deluxe Kid's Costume (item DI121229), also by Disguise Limited, costs $59.99 to $69.99. It includes a hooded jumpsuit and foam-backed wings, with stuffed horns on the hood, embroidered facial features and an appliquéd foam tail with a printed flame. It's the version most families have bought so far, and it has 34 reviews, with 79% five stars, 12% four stars, 6% three stars and 3% two stars.

It's a different design, so its reviews aren't a preview of the Prestige. But they tell you a lot about how Disguise Charizards fit, and what parents care about.

The most common praise is about the wings staying put. "Absolutely loved the quality and fit. Ordered 4/6 and child is wearing 5T and it fit perfectly! Good quality fabric and the wings actually stayed up!" wrote a parent named C. Another parent, whose son wore it all night at a party, wrote, "Even the wings stayed on all night. I love that the hat is attached for kids." And Karina, who bought a 3T/4T, said, "The wings are well-made and stayed on while he ran around."

The most common note is about length. That same party parent, whose son is 49.5 inches and 48 pounds, said, "My only issue was it was several inches too long in the legs and sleeves. I was able to hem it. My son is slim but average height for a 7 1/2 year old." Benzino said a 4/6 was "a little big for my 6 year old but highly satisfied."

Others found it right on. KR wrote, "I ordered the size 7/8 for my son who is 7 1/2 years old. He is slim build and weighs 60 pounds. It fits him perfectly, and it is really nice quality." Terri said her son's 10/12 "was a perfect fit."

And a couple of parents mentioned durability. Terri's son "did have 2 seams split however on his right arm and in the center where the costume has velcro to hold it close on the stomach," though she added that he "did wear the costume for almost 3 days straight so I'm not too upset." The one two-star review, from Shai in January 2026, was much harsher, saying the costume "looks very cheap and low-quality compared to what is shown in the pictures" and that "The wings that are attached with Velcro don't actually stick properly."

The Deluxe also has one big advantage over the Prestige: more sizes. It comes in 3T/4T, 4/6, 7/8, 10/12 and 14/16. That's the one to look at for toddlers and bigger kids.

So, is the Prestige worth the upgrade?

Here's how the two compare.

The Prestige gives you a plush body, plush wings and a stuffed tail that sticks out in 3D. It looks more like a stuffed-animal Charizard and less like a flat costume. Since the wings and tail both attach with hook-and-loop, they can also come off for car rides or sitting at a school desk, which is a real advantage.

The Deluxe has a flat foam tail sewn on, foam-backed wings and a lot of happy reviews. It's $10 to $20 cheaper in sizes 4/6 and 7/8, and it comes in more sizes. For the 10/12, the prices are about the same.

If your kid wears a 10/12, the Prestige is an easy pick, since it costs $69.99, the same as the Deluxe's top price. For 4/6 and 7/8, it comes down to how much the 3D tail and plush look matter to your kid. For a lot of Pokémon fans, the tail is the whole point, since the flame on Charizard's tail is basically his life meter. For others, the Deluxe's track record is the safer bet.

One more thing to keep in mind. Hook-and-loop is great for removable wings and tails, but one Deluxe reviewer said the Velcro didn't stick well on the wings. With the Prestige, both the wings and tail rely on hook-and-loop, so check how well they hold when it arrives, and press them firmly into place before heading out.

The cheaper Charizards

If $70 to $90 is more than you want to spend, the site has two cheaper kids' Charizards. The Kid's Pokémon Charizard Hooded Jumpsuit Costume by Disguise costs $49.99. It's a hooded jumpsuit with stuffed horns, embroidered facial features, an appliquéd foam tail with a printed flame and felt wings that attach with hook-and-loop, in sizes 4/6 to 10/12. It describes Charizard as the "fiercest dragon-lizard hybrid." It has no reviews yet.

And the Kid's Pokémon Charizard Kigurumi Costume by Sazac is on sale for $44.99, down from $69.99. It's a fleece jumpsuit with an attached character hood and wings, buttons down the front, side pockets and ribbed cuffs. It comes in one standard size, up to a 40-inch chest, with a 40-inch jumpsuit length. The pockets are a nice bonus, and kigurumi-style suits tend to double as pajamas after Halloween. It has no reviews yet either.

Making it a Pokémon team

Charizard is great on his own, but Pokémon is better in groups. For a younger sibling, the evolution joke is too good to skip: the site sells a Child Pokémon Charmander Costume for $39.99 and a Kid's Deluxe Pokémon Charmander Costume for $59.99 to $69.99. A little Charmander next to a big Charizard tells the whole story in one photo.

There's also a Kid's Deluxe Pokémon Squirtle Costume for $49.99 to $59.99 and a Pokémon Toddler Yellow Pikachu Costume for $29.99 to $39.99. For parents, there's an Adult Pokémon Ash Ketchum Costume for $49.99, an Adult Pokémon Pikachu Jumpsuit Costume for $49.99 and a Pokémon Adult Charizard Deluxe Costume for $89.99, if a parent wants to match. There's even an Adult Pokémon Snorlax Costume for $79.99, for the parent who plans to nap on the couch while the kids trick-or-treat.

And for collecting candy, the Pokémon Poké Ball Treat Catcher Bucket is $29.99. That might be the most on-theme candy bucket ever made.

Summary

The Kid's Pokémon Prestige Charizard costume from Disguise is a plush jumpsuit with an attached hood, two plush wings and a stuffed tail, for $69.99 to $89.99. It has no reviews yet, but it's the most detailed Charizard on the site, with a 3D tail the cheaper versions don't have. The Deluxe version, with 34 reviews and a 4.7-star rating, is cheaper in most sizes and comes in more sizes, with parents praising the wings and noting it can run long. For a 10/12, the Prestige is an easy choice. For smaller sizes, it depends on how much the plush tail matters.

So, is it worth it?

For serious Charizard fans, probably yes. The stuffed tail and plush wings make the Prestige look more like the Pokémon itself, and the detachable pieces are practical for kids. At $69.99 for the 10/12, it's a great deal. At $89.99 for the smaller sizes, it's a bigger ask, and the Deluxe is a strong alternative with a long list of happy parents behind it.

I'll admit I'd love to see a few reviews on the Prestige before calling it a sure thing. But the design is clearly a step up, and the Deluxe reviews give a good sense of how Disguise's Charizards fit: true to size, sometimes a little long, with wings that usually stay where they should.

So check your kid's height against the chart, and decide whether the 3D tail is worth the extra $20 in the smaller sizes. Press the hook-and-loop firmly before you head out, and maybe bring a younger sibling in a Charmander suit. Then get ready for a night of your kid roaring at every door. Charizard doesn't say "trick or treat." He just breathes fire and waits for candy.

Pros:
  • Wings and tail attach with hook-and-loop, so they come off for sitting or car rides
  • Attached hood and front closure make it easy for kids to wear
  • The 10/12 size costs only $69.99
  • Clear size chart with height and weight
  • Top-of-the-line design with a plush jumpsuit, plush wings and a stuffed 3D tail
Cons:
  • Sizes 4/6 and 7/8 cost $89.99, $20 more than the 10/12
  • Only three sizes, with no toddler or 14/16 option
  • Hook-and-loop wings and tail need to be pressed firmly to stay on
  • The Deluxe version's reviews mention long sleeves and legs, and occasional split seams
  • No reviews yet for the Prestige version
