The Posh Yoshi Costume Turns Your Baby or Toddler Into Mario's Favorite Dinosaur. Check the Size Chart Gaps Before You Order

  • Emilia Westwood

Yoshi has been looking after babies for a long time. He first showed up in Super Mario World in 1990 as a green dinosaur Mario could ride, with a long tongue that could swallow almost anything. Designer Shigefumi Hino later said his first sketches looked "too reptilian," so he made Yoshi rounder and cuter, and it worked. Five years later, in Yoshi's Island, the Yoshis spent the whole game carrying Baby Mario on their backs. And 2026 has been a big Yoshi year. Donald Glover voiced him in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which opened on April 1, and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book came out on Nintendo Switch 2 on May 21. So if you have a baby or toddler and a Mario fan in the house, Yoshi is the obvious pick. HalloweenCostumes.com sells an Infant/Toddler Super Mario Posh Yoshi Costume by Disguise for $49.99 to $54.99.

It's a soft, plush costume made for little ones, with a removable shell and a stuffed headpiece. Here's what's in the bag, how the sizes work, where the size chart has gaps and how to make it easy for a baby or toddler to wear.

What "Posh" means here

Disguise uses the "Posh" name for a line of plush costumes for babies and toddlers. They're built more like stuffed animals than regular costumes, with soft fabric, rounded shapes and fiber filling. The listing describes this one as a way to capture "Yoshi's signature green look in a soft, wearable design."

That's the right approach for little kids. Babies and toddlers don't care about accuracy. They care about being comfortable. A soft, squishy Yoshi they can sit, crawl and nap in is worth more than a detailed one they'll pull off in five minutes.

What's in the bag

The Posh Yoshi costume (item DI246699) is officially licensed by Nintendo and includes three pieces: a plush jumpsuit, a detachable shell and a headpiece.

The jumpsuit is made of polyester and closes with hook-and-loop down the center back. It has an elastic waistband at the back, which helps it fit a round little tummy without sagging.

The shell is fiber-filled, so it's soft and light, and it attaches to the jumpsuit with hook-and-loop. Yoshi's red shell is part of his look in the games, a saddle Mario sits on, so it's a nice detail to have.

The headpiece is fiber-filled too, so it keeps its rounded Yoshi shape. It fastens with hook-and-loop under the chin.

The listing sums it up: "Let your little gamer level up in adorable style with this Infant/Toddler Super Mario Posh Yoshi Costume!"

Why the detachable shell helps

A removable shell is a smart idea for babies and toddlers.

Car seats and strollers are the big reason. A stuffed shell on the back can push a baby forward in a car seat, which isn't safe or comfortable. With a hook-and-loop shell, you can take it off for the drive and put it back on when you arrive.

It also helps with naps. Babies tend to fall asleep in costumes, and a shell on the back makes lying down awkward. Take it off, let them sleep, then put it back on for photos.

And it gives you a backup if your kid just doesn't like it. The jumpsuit and headpiece are still very clearly Yoshi without the shell.

How the sizes work

The costume comes in four sizes: 6/12 Months, 12/18 Months, 2T and 3T/4T. The chart lists height and weight for each one, which is the most useful information for little kids.

The 6/12 Months fits babies 26.5 to 29.5 inches tall and 16.5 to 22 pounds, with an 18- to 19-inch chest and a 7- to 9-inch inseam. The 12/18 Months fits 28 to 32 inches and 20 to 26 pounds, with a 19- to 20-inch chest and a 9- to 11-inch inseam. The 2T fits 33 to 34 inches and 27 to 30 pounds, with a 20- to 21-inch chest and a 10- to 12-inch inseam. And the 3T/4T fits 37 to 43 inches and 34 to 38 pounds, with a 22- to 23.5-inch chest and a 12- to 16.5-inch inseam.

The prices vary. The 12/18 Months and 2T cost $54.99, and the 3T/4T costs $49.99. So the biggest size is the cheapest. The 6/12 Months is currently out of stock, with no restock date listed.

The size chart gaps

Here's what to look at closely. The size chart doesn't cover every height and weight.

The 2T only covers 33 to 34 inches. That's a range of just one inch, which is very narrow. Most toddlers won't stay in that range for long, and a lot of 2-year-olds won't be in it at all.

There's a gap between the 2T and the 3T/4T. The 2T stops at 34 inches, and the 3T/4T starts at 37. So a toddler who's 35 or 36 inches tall doesn't fit either size on paper.

There's a weight gap too. The 2T goes up to 30 pounds, and the 3T/4T starts at 34. A toddler who weighs 31 to 33 pounds falls between them.

And there's a small gap between the 12/18 Months, which tops out at 32 inches, and the 2T, which starts at 33.

What to do about the gaps

If your kid falls into a gap, size up. That's almost always the right choice for a baby or toddler costume, for a few reasons.

Little kids grow fast, so a slightly big costume in September may fit just right by Halloween. Plush jumpsuits look fine when they're a little roomy, and you can roll the legs if they're long. And there's more room for a warm layer underneath, which helps on a cold night.

A costume that's too small is a much bigger problem. A tight jumpsuit pulls at the shoulders and the crotch, and a toddler who's uncomfortable won't wear it.

So if your 2-year-old is 35 inches tall, go with the 3T/4T. It's also the cheapest size right now, so sizing up saves you $5.

Diaper changes

This is the question every parent of a baby asks first. The listing mentions a hook-and-loop closure down the back, but it doesn't mention snaps or an opening at the inseam.

That means a diaper change will probably require opening the back and sliding the jumpsuit down. For a quick check, that's fine. For a full change in the middle of a party, it's more work.

So plan ahead. Change your baby right before you put the costume on, and bring a spare outfit just in case. For comparison, the Super Mario Bros Infant Posh Mario Costume has "hook and loop fastener along inseams for diaper access," so if diaper changes are a big concern, it's worth checking that detail on any costume you buy.

Making it comfortable

Do a test run at home. Put the costume on for a few minutes, a few days before Halloween, and let your little one play. Watch for anything that bunches, pulls or bothers them.

Don't force the headpiece. A lot of babies and toddlers won't keep anything on their heads. If yours won't, that's okay. A green jumpsuit with a red shell is still Yoshi. Put the headpiece on for a quick photo, then take it off.

Check the chin strap. The hook-and-loop under the chin should be snug enough to keep the headpiece on, but loose enough to slide a finger under easily. And never leave a baby asleep in a headpiece.

Watch the temperature. Plush fabric is warm, which is great outside on a cool night and less great in a heated house or a warm car. Check that your baby isn't getting too hot, especially if you're indoors for a while.

Think about the feet. The listing doesn't say whether the feet are enclosed. If they're open, a pair of soft shoes or warm socks will do. If your toddler is walking, make sure they have good grip on the floor.

Making it a Mushroom Kingdom family

Yoshi is better with Mario. And for families, a baby Yoshi with a big brother or sister as Mario is a perfect match, since Yoshi's whole job is carrying Mario around.

The site has a whole Posh line for babies. The Super Mario Bros Infant Posh Mario Costume costs $49.99 and includes a jumpsuit and a red cap with an "M." It comes in 0/6, 6/12 and 12/18 months. There's also a Super Mario Bros Infant Posh Luigi Costume on sale for $29.99 and a Super Mario Bros Infant Posh Princess Peach Costume for $39.99.

So twins, or a baby and a toddler, could be a matching Posh Mario and Posh Yoshi. And with Mario's sizes running from newborn up, it works for even the youngest siblings.

For older kids, the site sells a Boy's Mario Nintendo Costume and a Super Mario Brothers Boys Mario Deluxe Costume, as well as Luigi, Peach, Toad and Bowser costumes. And for the grown-ups, there's an Adult Yoshi Kit for $44.99, which means a parent can be the big Yoshi next to the little one.

What it costs

The Posh Yoshi costume costs $54.99 in 12/18 Months or 2T and $49.99 in 3T/4T. Everything is in the bag, so you don't need to buy anything else.

For a baby Yoshi and a baby Mario in the Posh line, you're looking at $99.98 to $104.98. And for a family pair with a parent in the $44.99 Adult Yoshi Kit, it's $94.98 to $99.98.

Summary

The Infant/Toddler Super Mario Posh Yoshi Costume from Disguise is a three-piece plush set with a jumpsuit, a detachable fiber-filled shell and a stuffed headpiece, for $49.99 to $54.99. It comes in four sizes from 6/12 Months to 3T/4T, with height and weight on the chart, but the 2T range is very narrow and there are gaps between sizes. If your kid falls between sizes, go up. The shell comes off for car seats and naps, and diaper changes will likely mean opening the back.

So, is it worth it?

Yes, for babies and toddlers in a Mario family. It's soft, it's simple and it's easy for little kids to wear, which matters more than anything at this age. The detachable shell is a thoughtful touch, and the plush design makes it something your kid might actually keep on all night.

I'll admit the size chart gaps surprised me. A 2T that only fits a single inch of height isn't much of a size. But since sizing up is the safer choice for little kids anyway, the gaps are easy to work around. Just measure first.

So check your little one's height and weight, size up if they're in a gap and change their diaper right before you get dressed. Take the shell off for the car ride. Then put it back on, add the headpiece for a photo and head out. Your little Yoshi doesn't need to say anything at the door. A big smile and a reach for the candy bowl are very on brand.

Pros:
  • Soft, plush jumpsuit made for babies and toddlers
  • Detachable shell, handy for car seats, strollers and naps
  • Fiber-filled headpiece that keeps Yoshi's rounded shape
  • Size chart lists height and weight for each size

Cons:

  • Gaps in the size chart between 2T and 3T/4T for both height and weight

  • The 6/12 Months is currently out of stock
  • The 12/18 Months and 2T cost more than the 3T/4T
