The core gameplay revolves around breaking and placing blocks. The game world is essentially composed of rough 3D objects—mainly cubes—and the players can move freely across the world and climb these blocks. Players can break blocks by punching them or using any tool they can find. If the player breaks a block while standing on it, it will break into smaller blocks and each of these blocks can be picked up, put into a container, and then placed.

Minecraft is a game that allows players to build with a variety of different blocks in a 3D procedurally generated world, requiring creativity from players.
