The New Bo Peep Costume Is Built for the Toy Story 4 Version of Her. The Staff Is Where It Comes Up Short
For most of the first two Toy Story movies, Bo Peep was a porcelain shepherdess on a lamp in Andy's room, wearing a pink dress and a bonnet, and her main job was flirting with Woody from a respectable distance. Then she vanished between movies, and when she came back in Toy Story 4 in 2019, she was a different toy entirely. She'd traded the dress for a blue jumpsuit and a cape, wore bandage tape on an arm she'd broken and repaired herself, and used her crook to swing across rooftops and knock things over. With Toy Story 5 in theaters this past June, she's a great pick for anyone who wants a Toy Story costume with a little more attitude than a cowgirl. HalloweenCostumes.com sells the new Women's Pixar Toy Story Bo Peep Costume under its FUN Costumes label for $69.99.
That's the costume. The staff is extra, and it costs another $14.99 to $19.99 depending on which one you choose. So a full Bo Peep comes to about $85 to $90 before shoes.
The new costume has no reviews yet. Neither do its plus-size and kids' versions. But the store sells an older Disguise Bo Peep deluxe costume and a separate Bo Peep staff, and both have reviews that tell you a lot about what to watch for. So this review covers what's in the box, how the sizes work, what those other buyers said and what to add.
What's in the box
The Bo Peep costume (item FUN95612AD) is officially licensed and a Made By Us exclusive. It includes four pieces: a jumpsuit, a cape, a belt and a headband. Everything is 100% polyester.
The jumpsuit is jersey knit, which means it stretches and moves, and it zips up the center back. It has lace trim on the pant legs and eyelet lace on the top, which is a nice nod to her old porcelain-doll look. The cape is matte satin with a jersey knit lining. It fastens with a clear snap and has a vinyl cape button on the front. The belt is jersey knit with hook-and-loop at the back. And the headband is fabric-covered plastic with a ponte knit bow on top.
The listing says the costume "captures her signature pastel style and storybook sweetness" with a modern twist. That's a fair description of Toy Story 4 Bo. She still looks like she came off a nursery shelf, but now she looks like she could also win a fight.
What's not in the box
The listing notes: "Staff sold separately." For Bo Peep, the staff isn't just a prop. It's what she fights with, and what she uses to hook people by the neck, usually Woody. Without it, you're a woman in a pretty blue jumpsuit and a cape, which is fine, but not really Bo.
There's also no wig. Bo's hair is blonde and pinned up under the bow, so if yours is a similar color, a simple updo will do it. If not, you'll need to find a blonde wig elsewhere, since the listing doesn't recommend one.
And unlike the older deluxe costume, this one doesn't mention the bandage arm bands Bo wears in Toy Story 4. If you want that detail, a roll of white medical tape or athletic wrap on one forearm will do the job for a couple of dollars.
How the sizes work
The Bo Peep costume comes in X-Small through X-Large, all at $69.99. The size chart is very detailed and includes seven measurements.
The chest runs from 32 inches on the X-Small to 42½ inches on the X-Large. The Small is 34 inches at the chest, 27¾ at the waist and 36¾ at the hips. The Medium is 36, 29¾ and 38¾. The Large is 39, 32¾ and 41¾. And the X-Large is 42½, 36¼ and 45¼.
The torso measurement, usually taken as a loop from the shoulder down through the crotch and back, goes from 28⅛ inches on the X-Small to 33¼ on the X-Large. For a jumpsuit, that's the number that matters most. If your torso is long, a jumpsuit that fits your chest can still pull uncomfortably when you sit down. Measure it, and if you're between sizes, go by torso.
The inseam is the number that'll surprise people. It's 18 inches in every size. That's much shorter than regular pants, and on most women it'll put the pant leg somewhere around the knee or just below, like capri pants or pantaloons. That's intentional. Bo's Toy Story 4 look has short, lace-trimmed pants, and this costume copies it. Just don't expect full-length trousers.
The cape runs from 30⅞ inches on the X-Small to 35¾ on the X-Large, and the belt from 29½ to 34½ inches.
Plus and kids' sizes
There's a Plus Size Pixar Toy Story Bo Peep Costume for $79.99, in 1X to 3X, with chest measurements from 40 to 48 inches. It includes the same four pieces and the same 18-inch inseam.
And there's a Girl's Pixar Toy Story Bo Peep Costume (item FUN95612CH) for $49.99 in X-Small through X-Large, with chest sizes from 21.5 to 32.5 inches. That makes a mother-daughter Bo Peep look easy, or a Bo Peep and Woody family if someone else wants to be the cowboy.
None of the three versions has reviews yet.
The staff problem
The site suggests two staffs. The first is the Toy Story Bo Peep's Staff Costume Accessory (item DI90399) by Disguise, for $19.99. It's the officially licensed Toy Story 4 version: a bright blue plastic shepherd's crook with a wrap detail, in two pieces, and 31.5 inches long when assembled. It's rated for ages 4 and up.
That length is the issue. The staff has six reviews and a 3.5-star average, and three of them say it's too short for adults.
Angel gave it three stars and titled her review "Too Short." "I like it. It is cute. But it is more the length of baton than a staff. Adding a couple inches to it would be a good improvement to the costume effect." ToeKneeTM gave it two: "While it's only a prop, it's still pretty small for a full grown human." And Mbenson wrote, "I needed a large cane for my Little Bo Peep costume, and this was just smaller than I wanted so I'm returning it."
Not everyone agreed. Lisa D. gave it five stars and titled her review "Perfect with my 5X Bo Peep costume!" She wrote, "I couldn't find a blue staff until now to match my Toy Story 4 inspired Bo Peep costume. It's perfect!!! It's lightweight and not too tall or too short. Just right!"
There's one more review worth knowing about if kids are involved. A parent gave it one star with the title "Strangulation HAZARD!!!" and wrote, "My 4 year old daughter got this staff around her neck and almost strangled! We were able to quickly remove it with a bit of force, thankfully." It's only one report, but the curved crook is exactly the shape that can catch around a small neck, so it's worth keeping an eye on younger kids who are using it.
The second option is a Women's Little Bo Peep Staff for $14.99. It's cheaper and meant for the classic nursery-rhyme Bo Peep, so it may not be the bright blue Toy Story color.
Here's the practical takeaway. At 31.5 inches, the official staff will come up to about hip height on most adult women. For photos, it works. If you want a staff that looks right at full height, you'll probably want something closer to 4 or 5 feet. A painted PVC pipe with a bent top, or a blue shepherd's crook from a craft store, will look more like the movie. And it's hard to hook Woody with a baton.
What buyers of the older Bo Peep said
HalloweenCostumes.com also sells an older Toy Story Women's Bo Peep Deluxe Costume (item DI23727) by Disguise, priced at $79.99 to $99.99 depending on size. It's a different design, with a ruffled jumpsuit, a satin cape with eyelet trim, a belt, a headband and printed bandage arm bands. It's worth looking at because it has reviews, and they show what people care about with a Bo Peep costume.
It has six reviews and a 4.3-star average. Ella Timmer loved it: "Comes with the head ribbon, the belt, the cape and the bandages! Everybody complemented me :)" Three other buyers left five stars without text.
The one negative review was about quality. A buyer who's 5'6" and bought a Small reported a "stain of some sort right in the middle of the chest," along with loose threads and material she found thin.
It's a different costume, so don't treat its reviews as a preview of the new one. But it shows what Bo Peep buyers value: the accessories, especially the bandages and the headband, and a clean, well-made jumpsuit. The new FUN Costumes version has the headband but not the bandages, and it's $10 to $30 cheaper, depending on the size. The older one's Large is currently its most expensive size at $99.99, with only two left, which the site explains as supply and demand.
Finishing the look
Beyond the staff, the site sells a Disney Bo Peep Large Bow Costume Headband for $16.99. The costume already includes a headband with a bow, so this is only worth it if you want a bigger bow.
For shoes, Bo wears simple flats, so ballet flats or white sneakers are a good match, and much easier to wear all night than heels.
And if you want to go all out, a sheep is the finishing touch. In Toy Story 4, Bo travels with her three-headed sheep, Billy, Goat and Gruff. A plush sheep, a sheep purse or even a white stuffed animal clipped to your belt will get a laugh. Lisa D. mentioned buying a sheep purse to go with her costume, which sounds like exactly the right idea.
Who to bring
Bo is great solo, but she's even better with a Woody. The site sells the Disney Deluxe Toy Story Woody Costume for Men starting at $79.99, and Woody and Bo is one of the sweetest Toy Story couples costumes out there. For a bigger group, add a Buzz, a Jessie or a Forky, the spork with googly eyes and pipe-cleaner arms who's one of the easiest DIY costumes of all time.
Summary
The new Toy Story Bo Peep costume is a four-piece set built around a stretchy jumpsuit and a satin cape, modeled on her Toy Story 4 look, for $69.99. It has no reviews yet, but the size chart is detailed and includes torso length. The staff costs extra, and buyers of the official $19.99 version say it's too short for adults. The older Disguise deluxe costume on the same site has decent reviews but costs more and has had one quality complaint. For the best Bo, plan on a longer staff and some tape for the arm.
So, is it worth it?
Yes, especially for Toy Story fans who want something a little different from Jessie. At $69.99, you're getting all the main pieces of Bo's modern look, and the cheaper price compared with the older deluxe version makes it the easier pick. The size chart is thorough, which helps a lot when there are no reviews to go on.
I'll admit the staff reviews made me laugh a little. It's the most important prop in the whole costume, and it's the length of a baton. But that's also the easiest part to fix, with a longer staff from a craft store or a little DIY.
So measure your torso, not just your chest. Decide whether you're happy with the official 31.5-inch staff or want something taller. Add a strip of white tape on one arm, find a sheep if you can, and bring a Woody if you have one. Then spend the night gently hooking people with your crook and telling everyone you're a lost toy, not a lamp.
