Navigating the Time Travel Conundrum: Doug Liman's Quest for the Perfect Edge of Tomorrow Sequel
- 0
It's been a decade since Edge of Tomorrow made its arrival and astonished many with its impressive action and perplexing story. Fans have long been eager for a sequel, and director Doug Liman has been open about attempting to make that a reality, though it appears to come with its own set of hurdles.
In a conversation with Collider, Liman shares that he is still working on figuring out the sequel and how to integrate the complex time travel elements into it.
Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise have never been at the peak of their careers more than they are currently. It would be a missed opportunity not to explore how to create a sequel, so Liman is dedicating time to cracking it. On the other hand, time travel is exceptionally challenging. Developing a movie with time travel inevitably leads to the conclusion that humans will never experience it because it's difficult to determine a third act involving time travel. Liman is certain humans will never travel through time, but he is putting in the effort to solve it for the film.
Undoubtedly, it's a fairly understandable issue that Liman seems to be facing, and it's also somewhat refreshing because the director is clearly committed to delivering a sequel that meets expectations, rather than an underwhelming attempt to cash in on the franchise's success, as seen with other series in the past.
